Bakers scheme is 100% part of the problem. Not gonna defend perkins, because he has been awful in it, but the scheme doesnt work against competent offenses
Wrong. The truth is, the defense doesn't have a competent middle leader like Whit playing. I remember one of the LSU media guys talking about how confused the defense looked vs Vandy, and it was the first time they looked like that this year. Sure Perk has the green dot, but Weeks was the general of the defense.

But also, at the same time, we are just bad with really good shifty QBs. NOT QBS WHO CAN RUN. I want to be clear about that. Our problem is with shifty QBs. Sellers galloped for a 75 yard TD on us last year because of a terrible angle Whit took, but his other 9 carries went for 13 yards. Green at Arkansas is a long strider who has good straight line speed. He did not get anything out of LSU last year. Real runners of the foorball give us fits. John Mateer at Oklahoma will give us fits, but we should be okay vs Bama and Arkansas. I'm going to say it right now, but people are going to be insanely surprised in a good/maddening way when LSU plays Alabama. Even though Simpson is a great passer, we can beat guys like that. He's mobile, but not a runner. Our secondary is too damn good. You have to be perfect vs them, and if you test them too much, it's game over.

I'm calling it right now. We hold Bama to 24 or less AT Bama.

I don’t care what anybody says. Baker is a great coach.

Perkins is definitely an issue but trying to blame the defensive performance all on him is ridiculous.

We've now watched Baker since his Mizzou days struggle to stop mobile QBs and really any QB that is worth a frick. He couldn't stop Jayden while he was at Mizzou.

All scheme's offensive and defensive are dependent on a few positions really being the strength of what you are scheming for. Bakers star position makes or breaks his defensive scheme and Perk has not been able to do whats being asked of him and the defense just falls apart around him every other play.

There is mis communication and blown assignments at LB position. Weeks and Perkins covering the same player as Reed runs up the middle. TE wide open and nobody keeping the A gap closed as Reed streaks up the middle of the pocket.

he does one thing well, and he does that exceptionally well, i.e., he rushes the qb from the end position on passing downs. at everything else on defense, he sucks.

it's like having only 10 men on the field.

It aint just Perkins. This defense misses too many tackles, struggles to set the edge, can't shed one-on-one blockers, takes terrible angles, plays way too soft in zone, can't defend a route running tight end, etc, etc, etc.

Nor could the midget in Tuscaloosa, which is why he ordered the hit from his thug Turner.

Mobile QB’s were always Saban’s Kryptonite too, it is why JJ (who was only an average runner) had success until he had a month to scheme for him.
