Ben McDonald is NOT an expert in fact he’s rather terrible announcer
Why is he not qualified to be an expert?

Either Lester Earl is the most knowledgeable sports person in the history of the world.
He has taken on the role of contrarian on this board.
He is a massive troll.
I don't know which one it is, but I'm pretty certain of one of those three, which he is not.

Listen to some MLB games, the announcers are far more advanced than what you see here. They've all adapted to what the game has become, they aren't living in the 80's & 90's.
Len Kasper is phenomenal and has never played past little league likely. Runs circles around a guy like Ben McDonald. Chip Caray, another one, is really good. The Kuiper brothers who do games for both Bay teams. Better yet catch a broadcast where Mike Petriello is sitting in and you'd understand what i am talking about.
Baseball exists outside of Alex Box and ben mcdonald and lynn rollins

You can’t really use that word in an opinion statement, especially when it’s a horrible opinion. It’s not a fact that it’s a horrible opinion. It’s just my opinion that it’s a horrible opinion.

And while Jung is a great hitter, the guy behind him is inarguably better.
Same OPS coming in
Jung with more extra base hits
Jung with better BB:K ratio
Warren with 4 more hits in 2 more games played
Jung with better OBP by nearly 30 points

When I was a kid it felt like I opened a million Topps 1990 packs looking for just one card... the Ben McDonald main team card. Never got one. Well the other day when he was commentating a game I decided to go on ebay and see what the card cost these days. $4 for the card and $4 more for the rookie card. $12 frame from Amazon and I'm good to go!

Dude, ESPN has a fricking woman on the Sunday night broadcast. McDonald knows about 1billion Times more about the game than her.

Again, using walks to factor in who is a bigger threat in a game where you are questioning whether you should walk a batter or not is just silly. And you were a pitcher dude.
Regardless both of these guys were much bigger threats to win the game than Mendoza was

You only pitch to Mendoza there if you think you can strike him out. Thinking you can strike him out is contrary to playing the law of averages. Thinking you can strike him out is too prideful. You take your chances with the next guy, no matter who he is or what he's done, because it creates force plays. That is also part of playing the law of averages.
Honestly, we should have put that team away in both of the games. It came down to a few important at-bats/plays/etc only because we couldn't put them away. Hindsight is always 20/20 but you have to make the right decisions when you can't put a team away.

I agree but Ben has also played the game at the highest level. He has the knowledge. Is it the way he presents it that throws you off?

I didnt say anything about watching ESPN
You can think McDonald is awesome, that is fine. He's stuck in the 90s though. Teams are using different data in the way they approach hitters. Ben McDonald has not yet caught on to that.

I'm using stats to refute your foolish statement
Jung dropping bombs all over the postseason tells me not to pitch to him right now

Yeah, ok.
You’ll just have to forgive me if I take the word of a former All-American, Golden Spikes winner and #1 overall MLB draft pick who spent a decade in the majors over some loser who can barely tear himself away from TD long enough to take a piss.

Warren has more hits, more total bases, a better BA, a higher slugging, and strikes out less.
Sorry but as awesome as Jung is i am not walking him to get to Warren
I dont care who's OBP is better in this situation

By 9. As mentioned before, Warren played 2 more games

Correct

Perhaps you should consider that Warren should thank jung for how often Warren got good pitches because of avoiding Jung.

Obviously, in hind sight, it was wrong. I can't help but wonder if this same thread would have been made today, just with a different complaint, if Mainieri had walked the batter and the next guy got a hit.
The argument would have been Fontenot should have been pulled. Had he been pulled, the argument would have been why PM pulled Fontenot while he was pitching well. Don’t worry, the board having hindsight always makes their opinions right. The sooner you learn that, the sooner you’ll get along here.

You don’t give the guy behind someone better pitches because of the guy in front of them
