re: Cranford's expected transfer, huge NIL deals allows LSU to get whomever they want

Maybe the "other" baseball schools are holding their NIL $ to bid against players in the major league draft vs. portal players.

NIL may be something that HELPS college baseball more than it hurts it. Now the schools have a bit more ammunition in trying to enroll signees that were (relatively) high draft picks out of HS, and also keep good draft eligible college players who might not be thrilled with their draft slot.
Previously, a lot of kids may have really wanted to attend college but felt they couldn't pass up the pro money (even if it wasn't a number they really wanted). NIL now gives those guys a bit more options.

Still confused as to how LSU's new baseball coach could appear so far ahead of LSU's new football coach in accumulating huge NIL deals for top players and transfers.
The big-money football boosters shelled out tens of millions to buy out Orgeron and staff then secure BK. I can imagine even the wealthiest LSU fans have some limits on what they are willing to put up in this timeframe.

Players aren’t getting the type of NIL money that this board thinks they are.

I hope they are. Because a) they have less resources than us and b) they aren't going to sway a kid with money that already wasn't thinking about going to school. They don't have enough money to do that.

I don't believe you. I think we're buying guys out of the first round with 7 figure NIL deals.

I just looked up his summer stats. He’s fielding .983. It helps when you know you will be in the lineup every day. Cranford was the best defensive player on the team last year regardless of what the stats say. I do agree that he needs to go get a fresh start somewhere else

This is kinda true. 3 or 4 solid starting pitchers and your in the game…every game.

You think Alex Bregman would have passed up first round draft money to come play at LSU? He only came here because his draft position dropped due to a broke finger… Zach Lee went to the dodger’s for $5m instead of pitching and playing QB for LSU in 2010. He was on campus taking summer classes until he got drafted. If college baseball is able to compete with the majors and stop high school kids from going to the draft, I don’t see an issue. I honestly don’t understand how that’s bad for college baseball…

I keep seeing this but it’s simply not true. He had a .886 fielding percentage this year
He is a lot better than his fielding percentage this year. He's not great, but he is a good defensive player.

I have seen no evidence of “huge” NIL deals given to anyone.
The UCLA kid seems to want a fresh start, Tanks wants to play on a relevant team, the Baylor kid is from ABQ and probably has a relationship with Bregman of some type and we need a upgrade at Shortstop.
The Vanderbilt short stop probably had competition at Vandy and saw an opportunity in our depleted infield. The Vandy pitcher saw opportunity.
I expect many of these kids are getting tuition paid and other small perks. But I don’t think any of these guys are getting “huge NIL deals”.
There are other proven players on relevant teams who could draw huge corporate deals because they get massive exposure. Crews and Morgan have marketability.
Most of these other guys are picking up tuition, expense and a little spending money.

It’s this simple…
1. We hate NIL for football
2. We love the portal and NIL for baseball

Translation: it's bad for his son/nephew/cousin, whoever Cranford is to him, because it caused Cranford to get processed. Better believe that if Cranford was going into a program and had NIL bidders fighting over him that opinion would change.
Is it though? Because the big SEC schools are bringing in the best of the best from the mid majors it also opens spots for the players who couldn't handle the SEC to move in the other direction.
