The Network was filming a segment that week on LSU. They did the Florida game, the next week of practice snd then the South Carolina game at home vs Lou holtz and did interviews with Marcus Randall.

The worst example of this was Ben Wilkerson getting hurt on the final play of the game in a 24-7 win against Vanderbilt in 2002. It cost Ben an NFL career. It was a do nothing play. QB could've taken a knee. But Saban ran a play and Ben loses a career.

Was he hurt on a FG attempt?

worse. he was hurt on a called QB draw up 36-7 in the 4th quarter with 7:45 left on the Florida 10 yard line. The game was over. Completely unnecessary and dumb play call

Here is the play

LINK

We were top 10 in the initial BCS standings at 6-1. Mauck gets hurt and we finished the season 3-4 and unranked, getting embarrassed in the Cotton Bowl by Texas. And one of those 3 wins was the Bluegrass Miracle, the others being against 5-7 South Carolina and 7-6 Ole Miss (barely beat Ole Miss with Rick Clausen). We got crushed by Alabama and Auburn and lost at Arkansas via Miracle on Markham Part I

Am I crazy or did Brennan basically play most of the 4th qtr against Texas A&M and Oklahoma in 2019?

Brennan played the entire 4th quarter against Oklahoma and against A&M. He also came in mid 3rd quarter against Arkansas and played the entire 4th quarter against Vandy.

That was the first time in a long time LSU beat Florida like that. Saban never forgot that injury the rest of his career.

Even so, was heading to SECCG until Matt Jones. Ugh.

Lisfranc is a serious injury and you can recover from it but not everyone recovers the same.
The key to recovering from that injury is to be PATIENT and not RUSH trying to get back on the field too soon. (Very light jogging on grass; grass in Tiger Stadium or on the practice fields)

Ruined Ben Wilkerson’s career with similar move.

I don’t know, but I remember us k kneeling the ball against ole Miss in 2011 with like 10 mins left

Les made Mett kneel the ball because he ran his own number the play before to try and score.

Hot Take: Mett should've been starting by that point of the season and not faking a knee to run a bootleg just to feel something.

Absolutely

Still wild that Saban kept Mauck in that game against Florida when he got hurt.
What? I thought the complaint was he kept him in too long in a blowout and THEN he got hurt. I don't remember him playing him hurt.

You evidently didn't get the memo that Stingley was a puss who faked it.

I was there too. It was their 1st win in Gainesville since 1986. Still have the Gainesville Sun headline. Pat Dooley basically wrote it was the worst loss he's ever seen at home.Do recall they turned off the scoreboard quickly after the game was over.

Yeah but losing his speed made him a better passer.

S Carey pleaded with Saban to let him run it-and Saban did when we could have fallen on ball…..BTW Wilkerson one of nicest players i ever met.

I don't know how some of you remember this in detail almost 25 years later

I vaguely remember Mauck getting hurt one season, and it wasn't because I was really young or anything. I was out of college and into my career at that age.

I was there too. Florida student section was empty by the 4th quarter, and Saban came over to us high fiving the fans after the game. What a fun night.

Lisfranc injuries can also vary quite a bite. Some are pretty minor, others are rather severe. Alot of the ultimate recovery depends on the surgical management. The simple ones can often be fixed, while the more complex have to be fused. The latter is not ideal for high level athletes.

I was a student at the time….what’s funny is I only vaguely remember the injury itself and had to look up the specifics, but I definitely remember arguing about the reasonableness of him being in the game.
