With good reason. Compare their two records as they stood in the spring of 2022.
You don't just hire a coach off their record. You have to look at the person and passion. Murray state was also a much different job than San Francisco.

Context for sure. But, it's okay. Enjoy it.
Once again you have no ressponse so you resort to a snarky comment. I present facts and you present obscure comments like " Instead of CoachMc vs Golden, you can also look up who Billy Donovan told UF to hire - and you can look up Murray State MBB prior to CoachMc and understand he was arguably their worst coach in 20+ years" which may o r may not be accurate.

Again, irrelevant. It may be true, but he still had to coach and achieve what he did.

Golden is clearly a more successful coach than MM. So what’s your point?

Come on Driz stop trying to confuse Tigersbb with facts and logic. You know he struggles to comprehend basic information. He actually thinks 17-53 is a good record!

Again you have no fricking idea of the strengths of these teams ten years ago in these obscure conferences. You just throw this kind of crap out because no one can or will research it.

Even if true, what is the relevance. He won the conference and made the NCAA tournamnet several times. . Each year is different with overall schedule strength, injuries, conference strength so unless you did a deep dive you ae jsust throwing shite against the wall.

No, you don’t know anything about them because again you don’t know anything about basketball or what you’re talking about.

I really wanted McMahon to succeed here, and I believed with more time and more support he could succeed, but I finally had an epiphany this week with the double whammy of tonight and Oklahoma Saturday night, two games many thought could be winnable by this team.
McMahon --- is not the answer.
McMahon --- is not the answer.

You can go back and look at the thread that announced the Wade firing, my exact words were “ok let’s go hire a good coach”. I didn’t throw a fit or react how some did, not that I blame them but I also had seen McMahon coach at Murray and when he was announced my exact words were “frick”. There are a lot of small school coaches who have nice records and sometimes make the tourney but alot of them don’t translate to the higher level and McMahon was about as sure a thing not to translate as could be IMO. His first season in the non conf I said well maybe he’s a grinder because his point differential at Murray wasn’t as large as most coaches who get better jobs. Maybe that’s just his style. I was being positive for the sake of being positive, this guy had no chance.

I'll say it again, Woody didn't meet and get to know a coach. He hired paper only. Pelini, BK, CoachMc. Before you said Coach Jay - he was 3rd choice for Woody. Ms. Mulkey - she basically hired herself. Scott Woodward was a huge (literally) failure.
I regret that I only have 1 upvote to give.

C'mon, man. If you're gonna give him credit for bad hires, you gotta give him credit for good hires too. And Mulkey has said that Scott called her and asked her if she was ready to come home.
I also don't buy that Orgeron had no say in the Pelini hire. I think he saw the name and remembered his defenses at LSU and jumped on it.
Neither BK nor MM were looked at as bad hires when it happened, though the contracts can be debated.
Woodward screwed up with those hires. No doubt, but I doubt meeting with those guys would have made a difference to him.

Scott Woodward was a huge (literally) failure.
If judged solely by coaching hires, yes. If judged by the influx of revenue, probably not. If judged by the bottom line of the athletic department, the jury is still out due to the time it takes to determine the full effect of his time here, but probably mediocre on that in the current environment, and that is at least in part due to the contract obligations he is responsible for.
Now, how about we fire MM and quit talking about him, Woody, and BK.

Please tell us what in comparison of their records at the time would have made you hire Golden instead of McMahon
Could be that McMahon didn’t really do anything special at Murray State since every coach since 1995 has made the NCAA Tournament at Murray State.
San Francisco Coaches in Order (1995-2025):
Chris Gerlufsen - 0 NCAA Bids
Todd Golden - 1 NCAA Bid (2021-22)
Kyle Smith - 0 NCAA Bids
Rex Walters - 0 NCAA Bids
Jessie Evans - 0 NCAA Bids
Phil Mathews - 1 NCAA Bid (1997-98)
Murray State Coaches in Order (1995-2025):
Steve Prohm - 0 NCAA Bids
Matt McMahon - 3 NCAA Bids (4 if COVID doesn’t happen)
Steve Prohm - 1 NCAA Bid (2011-12)
Billy Kennedy - 1 NCAA Bid (2009-10)
Mick Cronin - 2 NCAA Bids
Tevester Anderson - 2 NCAA Bids
Mark Gottfried - 2 NCAA Bids

On paper, they are the same coach before their current jobs. McMahon even beat Golden head to head. It just goes to show how hard it must be to hire a successful coach.
