He’s thrown 4 pitches for strikes. The curveball is obviously his plus pitch but he’s throwing a nice changeup today and really locating everything. Locating all 4 pitches makes a less intimidating fastball a lot harder hit.

He’s gonna be a much larger part of this team than I anticipated, but I’m all here for it if he’s throwing like this

People forget how electric he was as a freshman. Even if he just gets to that form it’s a huge plus.

NOT saying he’s Greg Maddux, but Maddux didn’t have an intimidating fastball either. What he was so great at was locating pitches. I will take pitcher with a max velocity of 92-94 but can locate three solid pitches wherever he wants over one that can throw 100 but has little control and/or has a flat fastball.

He had 5 pitches. It was unreal. Showed the change up his last inning.

4 seam
Cutter
Slider
Curve
Change

They were all very fluid and out of the same slot and release. He looked as tough as I've ever seen him. I won't go anoint him into the rotation just yet. I still like him in the pen. But, we shall see.

He’s gonna be in the rotation once he gets his stamina built back up

Neither did Chris Cotton and he was pretty good out of the bullpen

He's said in interviews he wasn't trying to hit spots, he was trying to miss bat's. Which is an approach I'm surprised more pitchers don't try to take...probably bc it takes elite control

1 game 1 mention of Greg Maddux already. I'll set the over/under at "Greg Maddux" gets posted 100 times before conference play

Everyone acts like Maddux couldn’t break glass, yet he was consistently 94 when he started with the Cubs. That was a pretty good FB back then.

In addition to 5 pitches, he’s got something you can’t teach, it’s just in you. He brings life and electricity when he comes out the pen. That’s an advantage in itself. Give me more.

If he has a season worthy of this comparison, I’m completely okay with that.

Nope. He brings too much juice out of the pen. He helps the team best there

So proud to see Guidry back. What a dominant return. I realize the opponent was not SEC level but Gavin's stuff was filthy and he was letting everyone know about it. I mean forget the low resting heart rate with this kid. I mean that LSU dugout was feeding off from that Louisiana baw's swagger. Great to have him back.
