If Slaughter doesn't think he can beat out Hughes, Broussard, Reid, and some freshmen who aren't even as highly ranked as he was coming out of high school himself then he must have some terribly low self-confidence.
I dont think you know how good some of the incoming guys we have are. Just because they arent drafted doesnt mean they arent highly coveted.

Slaughter was highly coveted as well. You don't really know what you have until you see them on the field against college competition.

When Mainieri tells you to sign, your playing days are over. Frees up a roster spot and scholly money.
I don't know what the debate is here. Wish Slaughter all the best.

So CPM is telling kids to leave school early, before graduating, so that they can sign a contract worth about $125,000?

Slaughter can still transfer to Tech have good stat year and get drafted again.

How would he be eligible?

I definitely agree he can and will likely improve at some point into a fairly decent player, but that improvement is not likely to happen at LSU. I think the only playing time he will likely see is late in games where we have a comfortable lead, or God forbid, losing by a lot. Too many better options in the infield will be available next season. Middle of the draft pick is probably as good as its going to get for him.

I see a lot of great pitchers. I see some really nice looking C/1B types. I see a couple of outfielers who should be very good in 2020. I don't see the infielders...
I see Drew Bianco and Gavin Dugas. Dugas certainly doesn't look like a guy who's going to start as a freshman. Bianco seems solid but I would be very pleasantly surprised if he's better than Slaughter as a freshman.
I mean if we landed Turang that would certainly change everything but that isn't going to happen.
So I'm still at a lost for who these 3 infielders better than Slaughter are... Is Willis going to play 3rd? Is it Josh Smith, Willis, and Bianco??? That's the only possible combination I can come up with better than Slaughter.
Bianco must be a real stud to send Slaughter packing. I'm going to expect huge things from him as a freshman-- .775+ OPS with rock solid defense at a minimum. I've never seen him play. He must be incredibly under-ranked by these services.

The hole at 3b was him. Loved the guy but he was in his own head at the end.

Had Smith been healthy, I don't think Slaughter would have played much this year, especially getting off to a terrible start like he did.

Yall do realize that Slaughter was our 4th best hitter at the end of the season huh? Watson, Duplantis, and Cabrera were the only 3 better...
There was no hole at 3rd base. The holes were catcher (defensively), 2B and SS (offensively). Some times I wonder if yall even watch the game...

I watched almost all of them. I was about to ask if you watched the regional. I was speaking of his continual mental lapses and throwing issues. He can fix those but it looks to be somewhere else.

Mainieri probably talked with him very candidly about his position on the team. Not only is he not GUARANTEED a starting spot, there’s a GOOD chance he gets pushed out of one. We have a plethora of IF with returning guys and extremely talented incoming freshmen. If he gets pushed out of a starting role, he could possibly slide down the draft next year.

Jake has good tools. He will likely benefit tremendously from professional coaching. If he’s willing to ride the bus, go for it.

Ronnie Rantz was talking about the same thing yesterday on the radio, so at least more than one person has apparently heard of the family's issues with LSU. It sounds like there may have been an issue with the family (particularly his dad) thinking Slaughter was taking too much heat at LSU and that his relatively mediocre performance was more "LSU's fault" than Slaughter's fault. I'm not saying any of that was true. It was just what was discussed on the radio.
Presumably LSU is bringing in some good new talent and returning what is thought to be their best infielder, Smith. Obviously PM has to make some space and he very well could have thought his production (or relatively lack thereof) wasn't worth whatever headache they were discussing on the radio. It was somewhat implied that Slaughter may not have been completely happy at LSU and PM wasn't necessarily inclined to put up a huge fight to get him back. Thus, it was better for both sides that he move on the minor leagues.

I’m with you. If Slaughter improves slightly over last year he’s a .285, 10hr guy. I’m willing to bet none of the freshman, Hughes or Broussard come close to that production. There’s not a position player currently on LSU’s roster with a higher ceiling than Slaughter. I can’t understand people wanting Smith at 3rd with Hughe/ Broussard up the middle. There’s zero reason in college baseball to have defensive specialist at both positions up the middle. Hopefully one of the freshman can hit and takes over 2b.

That's kind of a shitty thing for Rantz to be discussing on the radio. Message boards are one thing. Rantz talking about it on the radio is different.
