How do you know that? We haven’t played a game in either Baseball of WBB. We don’t know what the market is yet.

My point was that if everyone else is paying WBB players more than baseball players, then LSU has to pay WBB players more to be competitive and can pay baseball players less and still be competitive regardless of whether that is “fair” to the baseball players. LSU will pay the going rate.

That’s not correct. WBB doesn’t make money and they get more money than baseball.

It’s political.

It's not political. While baseball is very popular (and successful) here and many others, basketball pays the bills for other schools not driven by football. The amount of money that pours in from the tournaments and final fours draw eyes, more than baseball. Thats why the men's and women's basketball got more of the money. However, I do agree that baseball should receive more of the money here, but I see what's driving the decision.

He’s not

My guess is the admin thinking he does not need it to win, that baseball players will take a discount to come here.

If Tony V wins in MLB, awesome

If not, he goes to Arky when DVH retires in 3 years.

He’s getting 2% and women’s basketball 5%.

Coach J was called while still in Omaha to be informed that the monetary number to LSU had been set and that his sport would receive about $250K. The conversation went downhill after that.

We all know he came home with the Championship trophy and that number was increased but still less than $500K. That is no where near the number he needs to land top players. That number is about $2M.

I was told that the percentages of that $20.5 million from LSUAD to the players could change every year. LSU Baseball had plenty of dedicated NIL and did not need more than 2% of the LSU funds this season. Who knows for 26-27.

It’s not going to be enough. So many fans are forgetting that NIL is regulated now. All NIL money must pass through a clearinghouse before given to a player. The money given must have value to the one giving it. Trust me. Oracle receives NO financial benefit by giving some QB $10M. None!!! That doesn’t fly any more. Even the coaches committee is worthless in giving money to the TAF for “baseball” with the money going to the players. Ain’t happening any more. It must come from an entity that receives benefit by sponsoring said player.

Think about it. Nike gave Michael Jordan a ton of money over the years. BUT, Nike made way more than they ever gave Michael.

MBB makes a profit outside of NCAAT/SEC rev share because it's inherent -even when we suck.

Thats what I'm getting at. Does it actually matter from a profit standpoint if we're good at basketball or do we get paid anyway?

LSU Baseball, I love, for sure, but 2023 NC program lost money.

There is almost zero potential to add more revenue for LSU Baseball.

But lots of room to lose a lot more if we weren't good. Baseball gets its revenue from asses in seats

As long as LSU is competitive in the distribution for both sports relative to other schools, that’s all that matters.

One school can't afford to be the best at every single sport. (Except maybe one of the Tx schools). Some sports are going to be sacrificed. I'd bet that you won't find a single school who is regularly top 10 in baseball, WBB, softball, and gymnastics going forward.
Do you really want to pay the market rate for each and be a #10-25 program for each? Or would you rather sacrifice some so you can be #1 in others? I guess when it comes to low revenue sports you just have to pick what matters most to your fanbase. For me I would prioritize baseball and gymnastics over WBB and softball just from an entertainment standpoint without having knowledge of the in"s and out's of LSUs finances

Are you saying that baseball only gets 4% of that 5% total, or they’re getting 80% of that 5%

So if we pay the coach top dollar and the staff top dollar, we still need to pay the players top dollar?

WBB doesn’t pay bills anywhere. It’s a loser everywhere.

WBB is a protected sport. It gets preference over all sports (men’s or women’s) except football and MBB most everywhere.

It’s political.

"He has plenty of money to spend"? Then explain why Coach Johnson, who knows more than anyone, here and those in LSU's athletic dept., is offering himself for commercials? He's not going to pocket that money for himself....if you think otherwise, you don't know him at all.

If only he got a little more he could probably win a national championship. Maybe even 2.
