Trent Johnson was a decent "coach' of basketball. Trent just wouldn't play games with "handlers" in recruiting. You just can't win in college basketball if you are determined to be squeaky clean, which he was.

Looking at the whole picture (coaching, recruiting, charisma, generating excitement, year to year improvement) — YES

Agreed I have been watching LSU basketball since 1973 and there is no reason to ask that question. He is unquestionably the worst!

Johnny did less with more. I would say he and McMahon are close to equal.

thank you

and it's either McCreary or McMahon. McCreaey's SEC record was 41-73, but he DID have a losing overall record at 82-115.

But I wasn't alive when McCreary coached, as his last season was 2 years after JFK was shot.

Jones had ONE season where he finished below .500 in SEC play. In one of those seasons 2/3rds of his starting frontcourt was a 6’3 PF and a member of the marching band! MM has yet to finish above .500.

Jones is an LSU HOFer compared to MM’s tenure

That's really McBad.

Take quad 3/4 wins out and his overall winning percentage is probably 20%

Trent and Johnny are better by far and coaching tenure is roughly the same as McMahon as well.

Never thought anyone would ever come close to those 2 but this guy has blow them away.

Yes and that is saying something. I love the McMahon cheerleaders when this team was playing the local BREC 40-50 AAU all-stars in December who were expecting him to go undefeated in the SEC. They could spend $100 million in money and they would still get this result because he is a shite coach who is not a fit here. That will never change. Fire his arse yesterday.

This thread fails to examine the whole picture. We went through six straight seasons of worse basketball than what's currently being served up-- the last four years of Dale Brown and the first two of John Brady. Football also sucked in those days. Fortunately those were the halcyon days of baseball, five championships in just nine years!

The only thing missing in the 90's was The Rant. And no, McMahon isn't the worst LSU coach. Give him the benefit of the doubt. He could certainly have won two of the four SEC games.

Won the SEC, SEC Coach of the Year, won an NCAAT game while at LSU.

CoachMc hasn’t come close to any of that. Worst SEC winning percentage in 80 years.
