After the Mizzou game he stepped it up to another level.

And some question if he's NBA ready. Smh. He's gone guys. Enjoy these last games. He's been a helluva tiger!

Not all stats carry over to the NBA. Elite college player, but last I checked he's still 6'8 with a SF body who has to play power forward. The NBA is not a game for him, imo. I think him coming back and expanding his shooting game, ball handling, and especislly passing would greatly benefit him.

That sounds good in theory, but with Simmons coming in and hopefully Martin staying he isn't going to be asked to do those things. LSU will have him play the role of a de facto "5" on that front line. Though maybe not at an NBA level, he's much better suited to play inside than the other two.
The reality is that:
A. He's not going to grow two inches just by coming back to school and;
B. It will be difficult for him to improve upon the great numbers he has put up in his first two years
He may not be a first rounder, but his stock will likely never be any higher than it will be after this season

Why do some LSU fans let the thought of him going pro sway their minds the opposite direction just because they want him to stay for LSU's benefit. The truth is he's playing on the highest stage right now as far as college is concerned. He can definitely be a role player in the NBA. He's a hard worker, a shot blocking machine, and a team player. Take the purple and gold glasses off people and enjoy Mickey the rest of the year.

You are right. A lot of posters think another year automatically improves draft position. As you, and the next poster, pointed out, he's not going to grow, and he's not going to have the opportunity to showcase a scoring forward game.

Martin is the true tweener. too slow to guard NBA SF's and undersized to guard PF's
Mickey is light on his feet and will be called upon to guard PF's and SF's. That versatility is appealing. But if Mickey were to come back he would be showcased all year. No telling how many alley-oops he'd be getting with that gang.
Martin will leave. Mickey will stay

We went thru this same convo when Stromile Swift, Tyrus Thomas, Anthony Randolph were playing for the Tigers. We all hoped that they would stay another year however money talks. If both Martin and Mickey get shown the money they are gone. I don't see neither of them staying.

quote:You don't know much about basketball. You are entirely wrong. He would get punished in the NBA next year by PF's. No way his body could hold up. He's too slow and lacks the agility to guard SF's.

Martin is so inconsistent.
I knew he'd show up for Kentucky, and then become invisible again. It'd be awesome to have Mickey back next season. If the NBA will give Jarell some money based on potential, then he needs to cash in quick.

by the same token, people arent just going to forget what he did if he does decide to come back and his numbers slip a little
shoot, playing with Ben Simmons may help his exposure. His stock isnt high to begin with, so saying "his stock will never be higher" is kinda dumb. He has a better chance of boosting it by coming back then he does of ruining it.
Someone compared him to Tyrus Thomas. Dude was a top 5 pick. That's a no brainer. Glen Davis on the other hand, came back for his JR year after winning SEC POY. So i dont think Mickey returning is totally out of the question.

What about those weaknesses would be improved with another year in college.
Mickeys doesn't have that much room for improvement.

quote:I agree. The way he has been hitting the outside J has already answered the number one question about him before the season. If he was Rodman-esque on the boards his stock would go through the roof, but I can't see this happening when he needs to be our primary shot blocker. If he knows he has those skills, and his quick jump and second jump for blocks suggests that he does, he can simply impress in a few tryouts.

I figured out Jordan Mickey trajectory. If he continues to develop his offensive game he will be the next draymond green. He shoots better than green did in college from mid range and prolly a better ball handler. When basketball becomes his life in NBA he will develop skills and more range.
