You cant put an undeveloped guy like C. Johnson out there during a weekend SEC series and see what happens.
That's just what we did vs Arky.
IMO, Cam never got his sea legs. Just never looked comfortable.
His delivery seemed to have a lot of moving parts. From the hype, I was surprised he was so unpolished.

Cam Johnson throws upper 90s from the left side, this is why he was ranked highly, end of story
That's not the end of the story. He also has a lot of movement on his pitches. The guy has elite potential, and it's not just velocity.

Does having a high velocity fast ball that you can’t throw for a strike really matter that much ?

Why was Kade wayyy better than him?

That’s what most likely will happen ??
Posted on 6/10/24 at 1:29 pm to Cburris
No idea. I just wish he stayed and developed here bc he has major potential.

The problem with players like Cam Johnson coming to a school like LSU is that if they can’t improve quickly, they will struggle to get innings. In the highly competitive SEC, if you can’t get people out, the coach has no choice than to pull you. In the minors, a guy like Johnson might pitch and throw 75 pitches whether he gets anyone out or not.

Will Johnson be a draft eligible sophomore next year? I could see the down to JUCO then to the draft route if he's not.
Posted on 6/10/24 at 2:14 pm to KamaCausey_LSU
No, he won't be.
JUCO route might be the best option for him. Robust fall schedule, games in the spring start earlier than D1. If he puts in the work, he would have ample opportunity to impress scouts before D1 games even start.

6'5 left handed pitcher with plus plus velocity
This. He checks every box when looking at the raw specs of an elite pitcher.
He just hasn't put it all together yet on the mound. If he does, watch out.

When did Wes Johnson coach Cam Johnson?

When has an LSU player left the baseball team and dominated elsewhere?
been awhile, but off the top of my head, JT Wise from the 2006 team transferred and was an All American and Big 12 POY at Oklahoma
We've had plenty of highly sought after recruits do nothing here, transfer, and end up meh at wherever they ended up.
Something was definitely off with Johnson. He came in very raw. He was sought after because of his tools not because he was a finished product. But his velocity went down ~5 MPH on his fastball from the fall to the season. I don't know if it was a conditioning issue or what it was, but that is/was concerning.

And finished the year sitting at 92.7 in his last 4 apps. Hoping it's conditioning. Wish him the best.

Cam probably needs a decent amount of work on his mechanics to find co so stench and accuracy.
If he's bailing out after just one season there's a problem somewhere.
Maybe it's his own Ego. He's probably butt hurt that Johnson wouldn't play him more, but if he has no control and can't throw it over the plate, he's not gonna get much playing time anywhere he goes..........

South Carolina 247 board thinks cam Johnson is going to South Carolina with rooney
Posted on 6/10/24 at 5:40 pm to tigerbait2010
I think whatever program gets him will be extremely underwhelmed. Cam has a super long way to go.
Posted on 6/10/24 at 5:46 pm to DBG
Dude couldn’t throw fastball strikes. Needs a lot of work. No patience
Look at Little, it’s taken 3 years for him to improve and still not great

Yes we did. I think that was an attempt to see if he could flip the switch under the lights.
He never was comfortable. He faced 30 batters all season and walked over half of them (16 walks) That is not ever going to get you more mound time on a team like LSU.
I hope he returns and develops because of his potential. I dont think he will go the Juco route because some D1 team will take him on potential alone I would assume.

They also think Rooney was the brains behind our recruiting too.

Yeah I noticed their huge reaches in Rooney’s capabilities
I did like him when he was with maineri in 2008-09 but feels like he hasn’t been much of a pitching coach since.
