You think WBB and a very regional sport like college baseball miraculously brings in $27 million in additional general revenue that just gets line itemized elsewhere.
TV contracts and other stuff, yes.
That's what the report says.
Not sure if there's a way to break it down, and I'm sure there is also a lot of value in exclusivity. But in terms of numbers it's easy to assume that Baseball and WBB bring in the majority of viewers among the other sport category.

You're welcome to quote the article and make assumptions while ignoring actual facts. Dumbest people ever.
So you think baseball and women’s basketball bring in literally zero dollars from media rights? That’s what it says on the spreadsheet so those are the facts, right?
Here’s an AI summary from a quick google search for you.
quote:
AI Overview
The NCAA and ESPN have entered an eight-year, $920 million media rights deal, effective for 2025-2032, which heavily increases the valuation of women’s basketball. The deal, covering 40 championships, values the women's basketball tournament at roughly $65 million annually, nearly doubling the previous valuation and allowing for, for the first time, a dedicated, in-excess-of-25-million-dollar-annually, pay structure for teams starting in 2027-2028.
Revenue Distribution: The deal allows the NCAA to begin paying teams based on their performance in the tournament, with $15 million awarded in the first year and $25 million in 2028, says ESPN.
Our media rights revenue for all other sports was $23.9M in 2024. It jumped to $27.6M in 2025 (coinciding with the new media rights deal). This doesn’t even include the fact that women’s basketball will begin earning units of pay for advancing in the NCAA tournament like the men have been getting. Smaller amount of course but it still helps.
Considering the above, the women’s basketball program is much closer to breaking even than it appears simply from looking at the financial report.

The hit the athletic program is willing to take by paying Mulkey and staff all that money and yeah, they win big but they lose big too.

Yea right, I mean winning didn't make Vandy football anymore money than usual the last two years...
Comparing football and basketball revenue is like comparing apples to sailboats.

Bama MBB profited almost $10 mill last season, just a few years ago they were in the LSU MBB profit range. Winning is important.
I’m sure Verge is very aware of this. No way they leave money on the table for much longer.

I guess the other side of the argument is that this $ isn't necessarily for "all other sports" but is "not specific to any sport".
Still, WBB brings value to LSU and people who say that LSU should cut or reduce athletic support from it are wrong.

The cost to actually build a winning program far exceeds the additional profits that could be earned if we were a better program
Meanwhile: we are top tier in spending on the football and baseball. Enjoy that.

Go read any article about the new TV deal with ESPN.
Doesn’t the espn contract include football too?
Posted on 1/23/26 at 1:27 pm to doubleb
No, not this contract. It’s specifically for all the other sports.
