We gotta play some more games to know that answer for sure. Ask me on Feb 19.

I’d say last years team had better basketball players and was more talented than this years team, but this years team just refuses to lose
Last year's team did a pretty good job of "refusing to lose". In case you forgot, they played in a record 7 games that went to OT, going 5-2 in those games. Not to mention several games that were decided in the final minute.
In just about every aspect except personnel this team is a mirror image of last year's group. Great on offense. Below-avg. to bad on defense. Tremendous on the offensive glass. Can't close out close games in the OOC schedule. Can do so in SEC play.
I don't think, at each team's best, that this team is better than last year's team. However, the SEC and college basketball as a whole isn't as good as last year either.
Assuming they can beat Vandy tomorrow, then LSU has done exactly what they needed to do in the first half of conf. play...beat every team they they're "supposed" to beat. But starting Sat. we will start to get a clear picture of just how good this team really is.

The SEC was better last year at the top and I think last year's team was a little more electric than this year's team. Both teams are great however. Would love to see this years team make a deep run in the NCAA tourney.

It's hard to say at this point. We don't have talents like Waters, B Williams, and Reid, but I feel this team has the potential to do very well...they still need to improve and be able to maintain the pressure and explosiveness for most of the game. If they can do that, they should have a very successful season.

I've thought to myself multiple times if I could place a single player from last years team on this one if it would make the team better and I amazingly go back and forth on it.
It would be easy to say we need a PG (Waters) but I like that we do not do nearly as much ISO without a true PG. I like that we play thru an offense this year rather than last year where half the time we just said 'Tre go get us a basket...'
The other person would obviously be KBW. He blocked shots and could rebound but I like that we don't have that comfort blanket. We can't just let our guys drive past us. I also like that we all crash the boards cause we don't have the 6'10" guy in the middle. I think playing without KBW makes some of our other players play the current style. Plus I really like what our other posts give us offensively that KBW didn't.
Naz was great but I like Trendon's game better and Trendon doesn't force the issue nearly as much as Naz did. I think Trendon plays thru the offense and plays a bit better defense.
So I get confused on if I'd even add any of the players from last years team on this one.
I personally do feel like this years team is better. The things we lack as a team has forced them to play thru the offense and play better on ball defense than last year. Playing better on ball defense forces less defensive rotation that helps rebound better defensively. I didn't feel this way till about a week or two ago, but this years team has convinced me they are a better squad than last years, which shows amazing coaching. Seriously incredible coaching.

We would be so deep down low if we had KBW

Biggest difference this year is a little more balance on offense.
On the flip side, we don't have a guard that can take control in pressure situations like Waters could, but at the same time you also got some erratic play out of Waters. Not having this type of guard worries me in the tournament. But having 5 legit scoring threats makes us much harder to defend, especially when a team may only have two days to prepare.
Plus, the biggest improvement in this year's team from earlier in the year is shot selection. Smart's shot selection has gotten considerably better.

I would say
1. Tremont
2. KBW
3. Naz
Tremont was just so good, and I think would end our droughts we see this year much sooner. He could just open up this team even more offensively.
KBW obviously for his size rim protection and offensive rebounding - although we certainly arent struggling on the offensive glass by any shape of the imagination.
Nothing against Naz, but Watford has been like him only more consistent this season than Naz was last year.

This team is as good or better right now. We'll have to see how if it continues to improve going forward or reverts back to some of the sloppy play and mistakes that made it worse several weeks ago.

LSU basketball - is this team better than last year ??
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Better? No, but basketball as a whole is down from last year so this team could win as many, or maybe even more games than last year's team. The SEC is definitely a couple notches down from last year.
I still think this team COULD go 15-3 or better in conference play though.
This!!

I'd say they are different. I think they are more versatile defensively. No, they don't have the rim protection of KBW, but he could be a liability on ball screens, and many teams used that to their advantage against us, and we are less so in that regard with Emmitt.
I loved Naz but he was a defensive liability in every facet of team defensive play. Watford is much more versatile, can switch screens against more players than Naz ever could and could help much better on the press than Naz could. Plus I think he's showing and will continue to show he's a better offensive player too. The only think I think Naz may have done better is rebound and Watford may surpass his numbers there to by the end of the year.
In fact I can go nearly position by position and make a good argument we ARE better this year except point guard...but that's a big one and is the main difference. I won't ship on Smart cause that's been done enough and he is playing well the last couple of games.

The personnel is different but the underlying problem is the same; can’t shoot the 3.
This team is smaller & not as deep. So I don’t think it is as good

This years team could make a sweet 16 or elite 8 run.
With Wade, last year could have won the national championship.

I love Will Wade, but we weren’t beating Mich St.

LSU is solid but SEC b-ball is down this year. Impressive run by the Tigers though after a rough start. Certainly better than my Buckeyes.

There were several top tier teams last year but LSU wasn’t one of them.

This team is better at understanding its identity and sticking with it. Wades third year we are seeing what kind of teams he is building. Jimmy dykes is whatever but that "you get what you demand" saying is true with Wade.. Toughness ans rebounding

It's like people don't understand that the NCAA Tournament isn't about who's best it's who's the hottest...
Still don't think LSU would have won last year with Wade, but Loyola-Chicago made the Final Four two years ago... were they a top tier team?
