They HATE LSU basketball. And there are multiple reasons for it.
They would love nothing better than to keep it EXACTLY where it is, or worse if possible.

McMahon getting one more year, simply because LSU doesn't have the money (thanks to Kelly buyout) to buy out McMahon, buy out Wade, then pay Wade, new staff, and NIL...so LSU and Wade agreed to wait a year. My info is pretty solid here. One more year of McSucking.

The LSU athletic department enjoys spitting in the faces of the fans.
If what you say is correct, then I hope we give McMahon under $1M total to construct a team and then force him to play a tough out of conference schedule. I’m talking @ Duke, then @ Iowa State, home against Houston and then @ UConn.
How depressing. We’re a total joke.

Wade's buyout only drops from $3M (after 4/1 this year) to $2M (after 4/1 next year). So LSU would only save $1M on the buyout by waiting until next year. LSU would still owe MM ~$4M even if they waited to fire him until after next season.
It's not like MM and his staff will be working for free next year. He also has to re-sign or hire two new assistant coaches and field a largely new roster that will cost money. Given market inflation in coaching salaries and NIL, combined with the fact that (a) LSU will still have to pay the same annual amount to BK next year and (b) The football NIL expense will only grow larger, the "savings" LSU will get by waiting another year will be negligible. Where is the sudden influx of money for next year coming from if it isn't there now? BK will still have to be paid next year, as will Kiffin, his staff, and his team. Plus, if Kiffin is as successful as we hope he will be, the cost of staying at that level will only INCREASE.
If the donors don't want to pay Wade a combined $7M for next season ($3M buyout + likely $4M salary), I get it. I would love to see Wade back, but not at the expense of dragging on this disaster for another year.
This mess needs to end NOW...even if that means not hiring Wade.

The irony would be if McMahan somehow pulled off a successful season next year. Then what?
I've heard from sources he is gone at seasons end.

Yes, and as has been discussed there is a small but loud and actively opinionated band of folks who are baseball only fans that really don't want to ever see LSU basketball do well. That will never sit well with me. They are I still believe in the minority, but they absolutely exist and make themselves heard.

McSleepy's 54th SEC loss in his 4 seasons, does this guy even know how to coach? He should be locked away for stealing money by convincing LSU to hire him and give him that buyout!

I hope your sources are providing cover for Will Wade or whoever the next coach will be to not have to answer questions about the LSU job until the last second. There's no way it makes sense to tank the program for another year to save a few million dollars.
If there really isn't enough money, Verge should threaten to pull revenue sharing dollars if McMahon doesn't take a lowered buyout or find a mid major job.
