Don't you think ESPN would air this if there was an audience for it worth broadcasting?? I GUARANTEE you they would. But it's college baseball, so they won't.

Pretty much every other game during the season is on ESPN, this makes no sense

I think we hosted the old Winn Dixie Challenge back in Skip’s early years. It was LSU and two other Louisiana schools vs three schools from another state. I miss it.

We went every year it was played when I was a kid. We would stay the whole weekend, watching every game. Loved the Winn-Dixie classic! It was the only time I got to watch the Tigers play in person. We listen to almost every game back on the radio back then, until the postseason came around. It was those years as a kid that I fell in love with Tiger baseball

Missed skipping school and watching baseball all day. Saturday they had the clinic. Players would just hang out before their game. Great times.

What’s your point or what’s the secret I’m missing?

That the conference negotiated to broadcast non-revenue sports so ESPN could have the rights to football and basketball. Without those two sports being valuable to the networks, baseball, and the other sports, wouldn't be on TV. yet y'all apparently have some warped entitlement that businesses have some sort of obligation to give you something for free even if it causes the business to lose money. LSU didn't broadcast games for free before the ESPN deal. You paid a monthly subscription to watch home games on a grainy camera behind home plate. yet somehow the OP thinks LSU should host a tournament with the belief people will be able to watch it for free.

ESPN has a contract to broadcast SEC home games (along with all the other sports), not this. There's a reason they haven't signed a deal with D1 for the rights to broadcast this tournament. If it made sense monetarily, they would

I wish they would do an ACC vs SEC style to but ESPN / ABC wouldn’t agree to broadcast it.

1. College baseball games probably wouldn’t make espn / abc much money.

Could have selected games on ABC.
Majority of games on espn networks and ACC / SEC network.

What about this:

Elite classic: 4 to 6 team event
LSU,Texas,TCU
vs
UCLA,Coastal Carolina,Georgia Tech,

I’m sure if you can get 4 to 6 ranked teams to agree to play in a tournament together, ESPN would be willing to broadcast the games. And more fans would be willing to travel to Texas for an all ranked tournament.

All some people do is bitch. Poor guys can’t watch LSU for 1 weekend but they get to play some different teams and play in a different area. It will be ok. I wish they did like basketball and went to a beautiful area of the US for a tourney once a year. Players would really enjoy it and fans could buy some app and watch the games for the week and then cancel it. It will be alright

Except it does make sense. ESPN doesn’t have to cover any cost for all of those other games besides their production. For a tournament like this, they would be paying for production, venue costs, and travel for all of these teams. There’s no benefit for ESPN to do all of that. They broadcast the other games because they are contractually obligated to.

Also, D1 does these tournaments to make money. Not to grow the game. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Problem with doing the Winn Dixie classic is unless you can get 2 sec teams to co host like Ole Miss , Mississippi State it wouldn’t be worth it. Skips days we lost revenue from having to share the revenue with UNO and Tulane. they barely had fans at their games so their games didn’t make any revenue. So if lsu wants host a 4 team weekend then do it at Alex box stadium.

Bring back the Winn Dixie Classic. Guess we'll have to rename it though!

Yes espn got the revenue from football/basketball because of the contract which including streaming all conference sports. That’s how contracts work. I don’t know what you’re trying to argue. That said, I pay for espn already for this service. I won’t pay multiple parties fees or subscriptions to stream the same same sports. Maybe, some ot ballers will. The D1 stream is kinda like pay per view trying to charge per event when people have already paid. UFC isn’t even doing that anymore. People use to pay a monthly subscription for baseball before the other contracts, but other contracts are now in place.

I liked the “ Busch Challenge “ that used to be played in the Dome, late ‘80s early’90s.

To be fair, the SEC is a slugfest with 75% of the league ranked. They don’t need to play powerhouses to start the season. It would be fun to see but Houston and Rice are nowhere near the caliber of SEC talent. It also is only one game so the RPI bump is minimal either way.

Good example…Milwaukee is 0-4, Nicholls is 0-6, Indiana is 1-4, our RPI is 110, SOS is 212

We are ranked 1 across the board and will be until we lose a couple games

I can turn on my TV and watch every LSU baseball home game on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, or the SEC network. Is that what you're telling me? Bullspit.

Now if you're talking that ESPN streaming bs they relegate the minor sports to, that makes sense.

You pay ESPN to be able to watch all SEC home games. This isn’t one of those

Then don’t but maybe don’t also complain about it. No one owes anything to you. You didn’t pay for a service that guarantees you access to watch every LSU game on TV

How have people already paid?

Before the SEC contract, didn't you have to buy the ESPN+ to see baseball games. That's just a vague memory so apologies if not true.

No, you paid for tigervision for home games and then other teams had services you could subscribe to for away games, with varying levels of quality. Very few games were on TV. Sportsouth had some and regional networks like Jumbo Sports, but games didn’t start being on ESPN and other national networks until the SECT and NCAAT and even with the NCAAT, if you were outside the Baton Rouge area you had to hope your area chose the LSU game and not one of the others

UNO and Tulane hosted it together, LSU was paid a large fee. I worked in UNO athletic department at the time. UNO baseball coaches were the ones the did the away schedule for most years.
