He was perfectly solid. Not spectacular but not hot dog shite like some would say. Whole team was a bit off.

Yeah, fans were mad that he wasn't Burrow 2.0. Like OP stated, 27 TDs and 6 int. 60% completion, 2800 yds.

Crazy, you figure in the Arkansas game and the bowl, we're almost certainly talking 30 TDs, 3000 (maybe closer to 3400 or 3500) yds.

On paper, that's easily a top 5 alltime season at LSU, and that's with losing Boutte halfway through.

I agree with the OP, Johnson wasn't the problem. Those numbers are plenty good enough to win, we had a lot worse issues than him.

Zero running game and huge coverage busts lost the UCLA game. Inability to complete a sack lost the Auburn game, and likely the Arkansas game. You can blame Johnson if you like for the Bama game, but if you run that play with a WR other than Palmer in the endzone, it's likely a catch and a win. Seems to me that Bech, Nabors, Jenkins, or Smith would have been "taller"... ESPN lists Palmer as 6 ft. I'd have sworn he was 5'6, he always looks so small on the field.

That backwards pass was the end.

Let's see what we know about Max as a QB from the things we have seen first hand. And these are just my thoughts. Feel free to let me know if I'm off bases on anything here.

Doesn't feel pressure and can't move into the pocket
Holds the ball way too long
Can't make his second and third reads
Has an average arm at best
Can't throw the deep ball constantly
Is a pretty good runner when he has to run
He is tough as nails

And he is a left handed QB. How many left handed QBs are playing in the NFL?

Was he the reason that LSU lost games? Probably a couple but be real on your assessment

1-UCLA
2-Auburn
3-Bama

I will stop at those 3 games. Max cannot handle pressure, has little pocket awareness, and cannot consistently move the offense. All of these problems were on full display in all 3 of these games.

Max is a decent QB that has glaring weaknesses

No need to bash and LSU will be fine without him.

The kid threw 27 TDS and had 6 Ints. That is world beater numbers with this pathetic play calling LSU had this year.

My biggest criticism for Max and Peetz was 3rd down conversion rate. I gave them about 50/50 responsibility for bad reads/decisions and bad play calling when we needed to extend drives.

I absolutely agree with you on that statement. He was one of the many problems with the team. But the kid also put up some decent numbers. They could have been way better numbers if he had a stronger arm and was more accurate. Not having Brennan this year really hampered LSU’s ability to put offensive pressure on the SEC teams they played. And that damn mediocre UCLA team the first game.

First two are basically the same. He escapes well enough once he finally feels the pressure. Not Lamar Jackson, but who is? Yea his arm is average, which is neither bad nor good.

Inconsistent accuracy at times. But I think what's the worst about him s not feeling pressure and holds onto the ball too long. That's killer

It was not all on him, but he is the most important player on the roster.

A record of 8 wins 8 losses in the games he played says he was mediocre.

He had flashes, but I think that was more a factor of how much we had to throw the ball with no running game and how much WR talent we had.

To be fair, wouldn't this apply to Brennan as well?

Wasn't born with the ability to read pre and post snap either.

his inability, regardless of pressure, to read the whole field was him limitation. Burrow as a guage is a tough measure but it is what it is.

I’m glad he is with Jimbo and my biggest hopes next year is that we get to stomp Max in the soiled ground of faggzville then break T.J. in half in that game.
Both are statue type QB that we usually do well with. It’s a blessing thy chose to go to teams we regularly beat.
We also have a another big treat when we play Florida. So much fun to look forward to next year I cannot wait.
