The only situation that could happen is McMahon goes on some kind of a run and wins enough to make the tournament. It’s a small shot maybe 20-30% but still a chance. If he makes the tournament then he stays for another year. I’d still let him finish the year.
Simply finding a way to just make the tournament is way too low of a bar for year 4. Particularly, when LSU would be the very last team in the SEC to reach that mark in the last 4 years. McMahon has successfully drug the bar for success so low that any moderate degree of success is seen as a great accomplishment by some of the fanbase. I would hope the administration has a far higher expectation level and bar for success.
Give him the professional respect to allow him to finish out the season with his team. But the decision to move on should already be made.

I agree, but I don’t think he will be fired if he makes the tournament.

I mean they just got the boosters to fork over a metric ton to fire BK, Hire LK, and sign the number one transfer class. Unfortunately, Bball may have to suffer a bit longer.

It's happened before - Georgia in 2008 and NC State in 2024 won their conference tourney in years they were cellar dwellers in their conference.
Probably saved both coaches jobs that year - both teams were just as bad the next year but did not win their conference tourney and were then fired that very next year.

The outcast? LSU under CoachMc.
Regardless of some spin narrative, we are not and were not dead last in NIL. We've gotten to the point of rims and tired legs being excuses that posters actually think and type.
quote:I 100% agree. I don't think a mid-season firing accomplishes anything. Let him coach out the season, seek other opportunity, while we look for new coach.

Hey look, it's Pirate King, the predictably consistent pumptard mediocrity lover. (What a surprise!)

Basketball doesn’t have the crazy calendar issues that football does. Recruiting and the portal are more spread out from the season, so coaching changes don’t have to be initiated until after the season is over. Unless you have an assistant that you want to give a trial run, there’s really no point in firing a coach this early.
