it amazes me how many people bash Nuss or think he isn't good enough. He should be #2 in season passing yards by the end of this season. Not sure what you people expect from him. Hes a first year starter following 2 heisman trophy winners and is on pace to be very good in his second year starting. If hes not winning every game and throwing for 400 a game and 4 tds LSU fans act like hes trash. Its ridiculous.
2018 - Joe Burrow: 219/379 (58%), 2894 yards, 16 TDs/5 Ints; rating - 133.2
2019 - Heisman Trophy, best player in college football
2022 - Jayden Daniels: 266/388 (69%), 2913, 17 TDs/3 Ints; rating - 144.5
2023 - Heisman Trophy, best player in college football
2024 (to date) - Garrett Nussmeier: 290/459 (63%), 3458, 23 TDs/11 Ints; rating - 138.2
I'm not saying Nussmeier is definitely going to win the Heisman Trophy or be the best player in college football. But given the success of the last two guy in year 2 relative to their first year as a starter wouldn't want to find out?

playing on this team for 4 years
He was on the team and developing but he did not get the game action to truly work out what works and what doesn't for him. Not only that, he watched and learned behind a player with a skillset that he could never replicate and he watched that guy do the job with first rounders to throw to and a seasoned vet of an OC calling plays.
I want you to get a job but you only get to watch the person you are replacing do the job for 4 years and that person speaks Spanish. Then once you get on the job, I want you fired if you can't do it perfectly.

Well his dad should teach him to run sometimes.

Burrow sat behind Dwayne Haskins and was coached by Urban Meyer one of the best QB coaches and offensive minds in CFB.

Burrow had a 4 game stretch in 2018 with 0 TDs and 4 INTs and finished the season completing 58% of his passes.
Maybe Nuss makes a jump in his 2nd season as a starter.

Where in the hell have you been. We had 2 major injuries on the offensive line and substitutes for 2 games. The OLine replacements were like a sieve, he was constantly under pressure, like nothing he had seen all year. Those were his worst two games. Every other game this season he’s been good to great.

I hope he comes back as well so we can find out what he's truly capable of.

He's had his issues. No one is going to deny that. His mechanics (at least his footwork) has been bad quite often. That's something you wouldn't think would be the case with a father who is an NFL QB coach. That said, I don't think this offensive approach has made things easy on him. He's often had to make a lot of really high degree of difficultly throws. That doesn't excuse the handful of dumb INTs when he tried to force something that wasn't there. But learning discretion can come with experience.
Burrow was just an average QB in an uninspiring offensive approach. Once that changed it allowed him to flourish. I don't see Sloan coming back as OC next season and I think BK will accept that the approach they tried to take this season isn't the best to fully take advantage of Nuss's strengths. Again, I'm not saying this will be 2019 all over again. But it's dumb to want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Change the OC and offensive approach. Keep the QB that has shown some promise.

Yes, after losing 4 games and having a 50% completion rate in the biggest stretch of the season he finally did it against Vanderbilt. And the results were pretty good. Pretty crazy for a guy to be on campus and playing on this team for 4 years and just learned to do this. But it’s been one game.
It took Jayden Daniels starting 4 seasons at two different schools for the lightbulb to go off passing the football, yet our fans want to throw Nuss away with his numbers in his first year starting. Some of these are the same people who wanted to bench Jayden in 2022 and the beginning of 2023

Some is definitely on him for making bad decisions and not resetting his base on throws. I think another issue is where the pressure on pass rush comes from. QBs would much rather have pressure on the edge. Especially pocket passers. We protect the edge well, but Chester gets pushed back a lot which doesn't allow the QB to step up and also obstructs the QB's vision. Mubenga hasn't helped either and Frazier is erratic. The OTs have been able to redirect rushers beyond Nuss, but if he can't step up, he panics.
The last game, Chester held his ground and on multiple throws Nuss stepped up in the pocket and threw from a good base.
None of this excuses the bad throws, but it does give some context.

Nobody said he can’t be good. Idk what the fuk yall are seeing that says he’s been good. The guy has been not only not good but awful in the biggest games of the year after somehow this stupid fanbase wanted him to start over Daniels. Like i said, the expectations were the only thing that were unfair for this kid. He’s been bad. In the games against Ole Miss, Bama, Arkansas, Florida, and A&M he’s had a completion percentage of 56% with 7 tds and 7 int. He has been awful. It’s easy to find the people who wanted him to start over Daniels. The guy needs to come back cause he has the talent. But, the receivers and the oline have nothing to do with the horribly dumb decisions that kid makes with the ball game after game and situation after situation.

Nuss just need better players around him. He has shown that of you can protect him AND either the WR win their matchups OR the running game gets going that he is a very good college QB.
Unfortunately Nuss has also shown that these aren't the only things he needs. He also needs a clean pocket as well, and we are losing both tackles next year.
So no thanks. I don't need a QB who needs a clean pocket, WR separation and a running game just to be "good". Because this is college, and besides 2019, not every facet of your team is going to be above above average.
Also, Nuss' habits of throwing off his backfoot while under pressure hasn't been corrected after 3 years and a full season. Why do I think next year will be different? That's a habit, and extremely hard to break.

Does anyone remember the ole Miss game? Dude had a clean pocket almost all game. Zero sacks given up. Refused to run with 15 yards between him and the nearest defender. 40% completion percentage. But, i believe they’ll be active in the portal and grab a Tackle if required. This isn’t the old college football. You can turn an offseason weakness into a strength pretty quickly with the right amount of money.

He needs to just learn to run 4 yards and slide when the entire middle of the field is open. That one little change and he's a way more effective QB.

Why didn't daddy Nuss coach his son up if he is so good?
Posted on 11/26/24 at 4:39 pm to Reagan80
He IS NOT ready for the NFL if he is struggling in college that's fairly obvious.
