well if that's your case, we as fans are not in the position to determine how they do their jobs...

Correct

quote:

Miles is a CEO

Correct

quote:

They want success to ensure revenue remains high.

Actually, the just want PROFITS to remain high, 'success' on the football field helps that in the long run but is not the end all be all when it comes to 'profit'

quote:

If they suck, the entire Athletic Department is hurt by it.

By the Rant's standards LSU has sucked for the last two years (or since Saban left depending on who you ask) and yet LSU Football remains one of the MOST profitable programs in the 'business'

Conclusion = Great CEO

Unbridled optimism without a sense of what the coaches are supposed to be doing isn't being a true Tiger fan.

While I don't expect LSU to win a BCS title every year, I do expect them to be serious SEC contender, which is something you cannot say for the last two years. While I don't expect LSU to beat Florida or Bama every year, I also don't expect them to lose every year, nor some random POS SEC team every year.

As a true Tiger fan, I expect LSU to compete with the best and to be recognized as such. When the coaching staff, regardless of pay, fails MY UNIVERSITY, I will be as critical as h*ll of them. That you confuse loyalty to LSU with loyalty to employees of the University is your particular personal failing.

IT's perfectly fine to call them idiots accepting mediocrity and blaming them for the alleged 'slide' of the program but if they would just stop questioning the other side we'd all get along.

got it.

One side drinks kool-aid, the other hater-aid.

How about this?

If you love LSU but have concerns, express those concerns without demeaning those that represent the purple and gold.

I don't have a problem with those that 'question' the coach/coaching, that's fine and legit.

Posting crap like 'LSU is horrible because they have an idiot coach that forced Ridley to fumble so he could embarrass us on National TV after he violated the civil rights of Elliot Porter' is not questioning, it is idiotic flaming and some of us are just sick of it!

I don't mind criticism. In fact, if the criticism is logical and supported by evidence I think it is a good thing and enjoyable to debate.

I would love to have a different board that requires criticism to be logical and based on an event rather than continuous ad hominem attacks.

In short, I'd love a board where the fans are free to criticize a decision, the coaches philosphy, etc. but did not take the extra step of calling for a coach's firing or attacking a player.

Instead, on this board, that reasonable criticism inevitably turns into someone calling Miles an idiot. Instead of constructive debate, every decision that goes wrong is a debacle.

As I said earlier, I hope Chicken gives consideration to creating a new board for the X and O type of discussion that forbids calling for a coach's head or attacking a player personally. Additionally, I hope he considers cleaning up the Recruiting Board so that it can return to being a place to get rumor mill and current information instead of being another Tiger Rant on the topic of recruiting. It used to be a much better board than it is now. I don't know when the decision to allow criticism to be posted on that board was made, but it negatively affected the value of reading that board, IMO.

The Tiger Rant should stay what it is, but this site would be better if there was actually a place to engage in quality football discussion.

Thanks Danny Chicken probably has one of the hardest jobs in Baton Rouge right now. I am in 100% agreement with you! Too many posters on this board are kids that are just having fun and aren't even LSU fans or football fans as far as that goes.

Dear Chicken,
Thanks for creating this board. I've been following LSU football for over forty-five years and, since graduating from LSU undergraduate in 1982 and law school in 1985, for the last twenty-five years I have been living in Texas. I was reading and posting on LSU internet bulletin boards before most of your users knew what one was. This is THE board for LSU football and I appreciate your efforts.

For the last two weeks, I get madder reading this board than anything else. Most of the posts I read I would be expecting to read on opposing teams bulletin boards, not our own. I now find myself attacking other LSU fans for posts they are making. I am sick and tired of defending our players and our coaches to our own fan base.

I would like to offer a suggestion. Would it be possible to have two different boards: (1) one board for those that (i) truly hate Coach Miles, (ii) wish him and the players would play poorly so that LSU will fire the coaches, (iii) feel the need to comment on our coach's interviews, his attire, etc., (iv) those that feel the need to criticize every play that does not go our way and (v) those that criticize every player that makes a mistake; and (2) one board for those that love LSU, that will root for and support our players and coaches every game, that will ask constructive questions, provide constructive critique, and those that will remember the good with the bad. I am sick and tired of reading posts on this board from those that I would classify as Board #1 posters. I am still interested in reading posts from Board #2 posters.

I,for one, am tired of the vocal minority of our fan base making the majority of true LSU fans look like asses in the public arena. Sure, the vocal minority says that “all of my friends at my tailgate hate Coach Miles” or “everyone at my office thinks Coach Miles is an idiot.” My suggestion for those posters, find another tailgate or find another job. Did you ever think that people are saying and talking like that because they know that you don’t like Coach Miles? As they say, birds of a feather flock together.

I am sick and tired of explaining to football fans in Texas why some LSU fans are so arrogant that they actually believe that if we don’t win a national championship every year that we have to fire our coach. Do you know the odds of a college program wining one national championship every ten years actually are? Do you know what the odds of a college program winning two national championships in five years actually are? Do you know what the odds of a college program winning three national championships in eight years actually are? I don’t know the odds, but I know that it is probably near impossible. Do you know how many college football fans in Texas would love to have two national championships in the last eight years?

College sports are played by young men who are not getting paid. They all make mistakes. Coaches get paid, but all coaches (NFL and College) make mistakes.

I have two sons in college and if my sons played football at LSU, there is no way that I would be reading any of these bulletin boards for the hateful, spiteful things that some of our so-called “fans” write when a player or coach makes a mistake. If my sons were good enough to play college football, there is no coach I would rather them play for than Coach Miles. I also think Coach Saban is a good football coach and he has been successful, but I would not want my sons playing for him. I like Coach Saban as a coach, but I don’t respect him as a person. I don’t know Coach Miles very well, but I respect him as a person and as a coach. He is our coach at LSU and I am damm glad that he is.

As fans, we have the ability to sit in the stands and watch football, a game that most of us love. We get to watch LSU on our "Fields of Gold." We get to smell the gin and bourbon from the stands, wear our purple and gold to the stadiums, let our kids experience our tailgate and football traditions and pass them on to the next generation. We get to root for LSU, win or lose.

Over the last forty-five years, I probably seen more losses than most of you have experienced as wins during your lifetimes. I get disappointed, but I get over it. Life goes on and on. The players will still walk down Victory Hill, the great Tiger band will play again and the next Saturday, it will be “Saturday Night in Death Valley” again.

I've seen LSU win and I've seen them lose. Of course, I enjoy it more when we win - but win or lose, I support LSU, our players, our coaches and our administrators. I would like to read more posts from our supporters than our detractors. I would like to read and post on Board #2.

Thanks for your efforts in creating this great internet board.

Geaux Tigers!

Hey bud...they don't call this place Tiger Rant for nothing. If you don't like the Tiger Rant, then post on some of the other boards on this site.

My criticism of the coaching staff here has much less to do with winning National Championships as it does in getting LSU to play up to their potential, regardless of the outcome, which if they do play up to their potential, then there is a strong likelihood that they will at least be in the running. I don't know anyone really, especially myself, who thinks LSU should win the NC every year, or even ever three or five, or even ten years. What I want to see is coaching kids not to shoot themselves in the foot, play the entire game with a sense of urgency and laying it out there like every down depends upon it, and improvement from the top down.

This is exactly what bothers me. It's frustrating to know the players are much better than the performance. I'm sure it's frustrating for the players too, so much so that I wonder how it affects recruiting.

I feel your pain Waco, much of the rudeness here is over the top, but I still find myself coming back time and time again (voluntarily, I might add). Sure, I have stepped away from time to time, tired of the constant and never ending but here I am posting, even though one of these fine citizens is likely to tell me to gfm. Who cares, I was in Germany for 4 years, far removed from LSU sports. I was miserable. I wish I had this board back then!! I'm happy it's here now. It helps me when I am jonesin' for some LSU or just needing a good laugh.
