Your attitude is what’s wrong with the whole thing. Maturity is realizing keeping 18-22-year-olds on a tight leash was for the best.

I just don’t agree with the hypocrisy. I know it’s an unpopular opinion here. I knew I would get downvoted a lot.

It’s cool, Happy New Year all.

This is not sustainable.
We understand it will need changes but why the outrage? Lol. Would you perhaps be jealous, by chance?

Extorting? What would you rather? Colleges, coaches, NCAA, Tv stations all making millions off free labor?

And I actually agree with you that the old way was hypocritical… but that it was a necessary evil to maintain order and prevent exactly what we’re seeing.

That’s a much more in depth discussion. We can have it, but not tonight - and not players extorting teams OP.

I just don’t see what’s wrong with paying players.

People pretended players weren't paid already. Willful ignorance.

I have agreement that portal ++ NIL needs a correction. Neither alone are incorrect. They are both right - IMO. But NCAA and courts took too long to find a good answer. And now people blame it on the players. It's so arse-backwards thinking.

Players should 100% get paid considering the money they are generating for the universities. The, essentially, unlimited transfer portal is dumb though and really fricks everything up.

I agree, many fans think it's players getting paid that's the problem, is not. The unlimited portal creates a no comittment, no consequences situation that's essentially worse than the NFL

It's the I-ME system. Kinda sucks. Think i will increase my fishing

I downvoted but I agree, it is the I/Me system and the I/ME is LSU. Meaning LSU can now tell the kids we don’t want, the kids that take a check and don’t put in the work to leave by not renewing their NIL.

What the OP doesn’t understand is that most kids that hit the portal don’t have a spot on the team. and their replacements will come in fast starting in Jan 2.

Be patient Jackass and learn the game.

What you're complaining about has nothing to do with paying players.

It has everything to do with the unlimited transfer portal creating a system where there is no breach of contract if someone leaves.

But the players absolutely deserve to be paid.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm sure Spears wasn't making much as a backup. He's clearly set to start at one of the safety spots. Why not renegotiate to get starter pay?

If you had to go into the portal to get a player the caliber of a starting SEC safety, you'd be paying even more. It's better this way. You've got a guy here already who's been in the system for 2 full seasons. The is the best scenario

SOME players were getting paid by SOME schools. We can only speculate but I’d guess it was a drop in the bucket compared to the money being made by the industry.

What blows my mind is the number of rich people willing to throw their money around just for (I guess) bragging rights. It doesn’t seem like they even understand what they are buying half the time. I would think that will eventually work itself out but at least for now it seems to be getting more extreme.

If you got a call this evening and some competition to your company wanted give you a 250% raise and more than double your pay for the exact same work would you explain how loyal you are to that company or would you do what is best for your family?

College football is not like it used to be. Years ago, when talking about LSU players, you knew that 90% were from Louisiana. Today, we're lucky if 10% are from here. It's now in the era 0f "Rent a Player" for the most money! And that sucks!

There is a far cry from a system more fair to the player to the crap we have today.
