C). Matt Moscona said he talked to someone in Coach Bakers circle who said no contact has even been made, so I believe this is smoke and mirrors.

Of course no official contact has been made with Baker Tulane still has a coach and was playing in a CC. His agent has of course spoken with people.

This bizarre rumor took wings when TE coach Nagle departed for UH and Coach Fritz. It's completely unsubstantiated so make it stop, please

The rumor isn’t that strange. Tulane coach leaving is a likely possibility and Baker being a candidate makes a lot of sense.

Tulane HC is a demotion from being the DC at LSU. And if things go right Baker may be the next HC at LSU after Kelly is done.

UNC is pretty close to hiring Bill Belliceck per the internets.

Shockingly athletic directors aren’t as reactionary as message board posters.

So you wouldn't take a head coaching job over being an assistant?

At Tulane? No. His most optimistic career path at that point would be to stack 10 win seasons and move up to a low to mid-level P4 program like Fritz did.

On the flip side, he can remain at LSU 3 more years, field a top 35 defense each of those seasons, and at minimum get the same offers, but likely better. If he does that, he will be on the short list to replace Kelly who will be nearing retirement which will also make him a hot property for jobs with a higher profile than say Univ of Houston.

Definitely has legs but I'm not sure he'll take this job especially in this new era of NCAA. It might be better for guys like him to wait for a big Power 5 to offer you with more resources because he's not getting them at Tulane. They got lucky with solid coaching and more veteran players. More often than not you're going to strike out on limited resources even if you're a good coach. Wouldn't be shocked to see LSU raise his contract to keep him. I think Baker is a good coach wouldn't want to lose him.
