Some of the bench guys like King played well against the weak part of the schedule, didn’t see it against Tech or SMU.

We are going to need better bench play for sure especially from King and Miller. If we can get 6-8 points from them would be huge this team. King defense is good as is Miller.

Last year started SEC , win over Arkansas, loss to Kentucky by 2
Next 15 SEC games 2-13 , I believe when I see it with my own eyes.

The league is still strong, maybe not as strong as last year which had a lot to do with the rest of the country being down. So where do we fit, there are about 5 teams that are completely out of our reach but then there are the next 5 where 2 are possibly very good and the next 3 are where we need to compete and win. The issue is because of the non conf we need to be ahead of that last spot because if we’re in a multi team race for the final spot our non conf and the Tech loss is going to hurt and probably leave us out. Might come down to the SEC tourney and having to make a run there.

SMU was an NIT team last year. Everyone’s acting like we beat Arizona.

There will be games where King will have to spell McKinnon strictly for defense IMHO. Mckinnon seems allergic to screens.

I wonder if mckinnon can compete defensively in the sec. Looks to lack lateral quickness

Well, let's put it this way, if he's having one of those games where his shot is not falling, and there have been a few of those, King needs to be on the court for his defense.

Agree. If McKinnon isn’t on he needs to sit. I also would like to see Zipper get some important minutes and see what he can do. Can’t be any worse than McKinnon defensively.

It's been a while since I've seen a player fold on screens as easily as he does.

Those acting like this was firm validation LSU will be a NCAAT team this year are foolish. But it was still a good win. In no sport is "last year" more irrelevant than in college basketball. THIS YEAR SMU was 9-1 coming into the game. More notably, they played 3 straight SEC teams before the LSU game (@ Miss. St, @ Vandy, (neutral) vs. Texas A&M) and were 2-1 in those games. At minimum, SMU is comparable to SEC opponents LSU will need to beat this year. And it wasn't necessarily a lucky win for LSU. They led most of the game and played with a pretty comfortable lead most of the second half.

Have you seen zipper attempt to play defense? Neither are average

Zipper looks SUPER stiff!

Feels like two big variables for this team are:
1. How well does Max shoot and can he get going?
2. Can Nwoko stay out of foul trouble and stay on the floor?
When one of those things happens, seems like we at least have a chance. When neither happen, we become way too limited.
Both of your points are valid, but don't tell the whole story. Tamba and Sutton were the keys to this win. Along with Thomas who has been consistently good so far this year. The spanking we took from Texas Tech was probably the worst game Thomas has had with us.
I don't think of Sutton as a key to win, just like I don't think of DJ Thomas as a key, because I think both of those guys consistently show up. I think Max's shooting (since no one else seems to be consistent with 3s) and Nwoko's foul trouble are the keys, since those are the inconsistent variables. If Miller could become a better player, and if someone else can become a consistent 3 point threat that doesn't hurt us too much when he is in the game, then the keys to victory will change.
