Because back then he didn't have internet message boards keeping him depressed. Back then, fans supported the team no matter how bad it got. Sure, we did our share of bitching but We didn't leave at halftime and act like drama queens on tRant.

It’s been epically worse than this. I remember during the Dinardo era going crazy when they got an invite to the Indy Bowl.

I am a much, MUCH bigger basketball fan than baseball fan, and while Wade seems to have things going in the right direction, he still hasn't done anything of real note at LSU...and I think HE would agree with that assessment.

The baseball program on the other hand is one year removed from playing for the National Championship, in a season that marked a record tying 6 consecutive season as a top 8 National seed. Yes, this year has been disappointing. But to act like the entire program is in shambles is beyond absurd.

And if you've been a fan since the 1970's, you must have missed the decade and a half no one knew LSU had a baseball program, as well as the mid-90's when getting a bid to the Independence Bowl was like making the Super Bowl. All while the basketball program was on a steady march towards probation

No freaking way. It's far from as great as ten years ago, but you're just delusional if you think this is the worst.

They were fourth best football team in the SEC, that 's not horrible. Be realisitc, sure we want a chmpionship, but this is hardlythe disaster some o fyou portray.

Mens basketball exceeded expectations, clsoe to a first divsiion finish, made the NIT and monster recruiting class.

Mens track doing very well.

Golf team strong.

Tennis is fair.

Baseball having lesss successful year but still in middle of the pack deespite key injuries.

So why the doom and gloom?

During the 90’s was the greatest run in baseball history IMO and I do consider what Dedeaux did at SC.
So your argument about Hallman, Archer, Brown and Tepped is off base. Track was pretty awesome then as well.
2003 was pretty good for football with Smoke having baseball don’t you think? In fact, the only possible argument you have is Johnny Jones, but baseball went to the finals.

So none of your examples are close to accurate.

Wasn't Adam McConathy (A great middle LB at West Monroe) the first failed experimental Tepper Drop LB?

The state of LSU fan base is pathetic. There is no way this new group of fans could have survived the 89-95 stretch. Just pathetic

What? How in the hell am I offbase regarding football and those names? That’s a terrible response.

What are you taking about regarding baseball finals? Smoke’s teams never finished higher than seventh in the CWS.

The OP’s argument is that collectively, this is the worst he’s ever seen. Really, this is worse than in ‘92, for instance, when baseball was eliminated in a regional, basketball was eliminated in the first round of the tournament, and football went 2-9?

You must be a sad man at heart if you think things are really that bad. Get a grip man.

This guy gets it.

No offense, but what are you talking about. We won 2 baseball national championships during that stretch, and would win 2 more the following 2 years.
Also, Shaq was at LSU from ‘89-92.

you are combining 2 seasons into one with your argument. You talking about 91-92 or 92-93? Either way, basketball made the tournament and baseball hosted a regional

I think the OP is talking about the overall culture of men's sports.
The debacle with Miles/JA/Fking/CEO has the football program reeling.....before WW the JJ saga played out and we've gone from national runner-up in baseball to the outhouse in one year.
It's not an unfair assumption to say things are bad.
