So far I'm highly impressed with the quality of the responses. Is this a representative sample of the friendliness/class of Tigers fans generally or just typical fan-board banter?
I was joking. Piss balloons are like corn dogs, false association.

The most whining I've heard about the behavior of LSU fans
came from Oklahoma fans a few years ago when we kicked their butts in the Superdome. But they were favored and arrogant( and, of course, thry're Okies), so that's probably not a good example. People will be nice to you if you're friendly and are not obnoxious, and you don't seem to be obnoxious. You'll also have a chance to taste the best tailgate food in the country.

Figured. And I assume the demands for pics when people assumed I was a chick were also jokes, but who knows when on the interwebs?

I’ve been going to LSU football games for 20 of my 25 short years on this earth, I have never at one time thought “man, that guy is an a-hole” regarding how LSU fans act towards other fans. It’s all in good fun and we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

How early do I need to get into the stadium for "pre-game?"
Players walk down the hill, followed shortly by the band probably 2 - 2 1/2 hours before the game (a schedule is usually posted here. If not, just ask Thursday or Friday and someone will be able to get you the exact times).
Will need to be in your seats before 10:30 to catch pregame.

Chimes recommendation the best for you. Not corporate and right outside the gates of LSU. As for campus, plenty of people will still be tailgating and everyone here is right...people will welcome you and you'll have a great time. Report back with your experience after the game and hope you have a great trip.

Go to Chimes after the game.
The Chimes is a great restaurant and all, but on a Saturday afternoon after an early ballgame? I’d think the wait to get a table would be longer than the game itself.

I agree with those who suggested The Chimes. Don’t sweat the wait, just get some drinks and I think you will prefer this atmosphere and food wise over Walk On’s. The food is all pretty good but be sure to get bisque.
If you’re in that area, check to see if you like any of the music offerings, particularly at the Varsity next door to Chimes. There are also some cool places “under the overpass” if you get off campus just a bit, but they may not be the same names from my time there, but George’s and Ivar’s Republicans the spots I recall.

Also, how friendly are LSU fans to visiting fans wearing visiting colors?
Very friendly to non conference visitors. We like to show y'all how nice we are and how well we cook.
Y'all will have a great time. My advice is to eat small portions at several tailgates you're invited to. Don't fill up at one.
After the game... drive 10 min south of LSU campus to Roux 61. It's some of the best food in town, casual, and big. Should not be jam packed like Chimes, Walk-ons, Mike Andersons, or Parrains will be after game.

That way we can help figure out the right game day experience for everyone.
Thanks in advance.

Great tips, all. Thanks! I'll be sure to report back after the game.

I know that early-morning NO hangover will suck, but can't stress enough you're making a mistake by saying "I'm shooting for 8:30"... the thing is, with the 11am KO, we won't be trickling in to the area all day long; everybody will be going at about the same time, so pregame traffic will be worse than usual -
It's imperative to be there for the band coming down the hill about 2, 2&1/2 hrs before KO (which puts it at around 8:30; you want to be on your 3rd bourbon by then and having sampled half-a-dozen tailgates' foods, not still trying to park!)- especially, since being robbed of full game-day and night-game experience, this is one of the few treats available to you. BE ON CAMPUS BY 6-7AM!!! You will be impressed by how hard we will be going at it by that ungodly hour...
How's your stamina? I'd seriously consider staying up all night and leaving NO shortly before daylight....
Have fun! Oh, and STTDB!

That early it will only take you an hour from NO.

frick that. This dude wants the experience. With the new rooftop bar area the Chimes is the only answer.

I would recommend not partying too late friday night in NOLA. Save that for saturday night. Get to lsu early saturday and take in the gameday atmosphere. Go to chimes after game and then head back to NOLA

I agree with everyone else, plan on getting to campus no later than 6:00 AM.
Posted on 9/29/19 at 8:55 am to ChicAggie
You got screwed by the 11am kickoff. No two ways about it. But I hope you have a great time.

Posted on 9/29/19 at 9:14 am to Gaspergou202
This. Roll with the early start time and OP is coming to the game first and foremost. NOLA is just a bunch of drunkenness anyway. At least for me. A full gameday experience, despite an early one
, is better than nola IMO

Pics or GTFO
Came here for this. Stayed for the rest.
Edit: agree with the posters who say get there really early. Experiencing the tailgates and food will get you awake. Watching the band walk down victory hill is nice, and I bet that happens at 0900. Pregame in the stadium is usually -20 min from kickoff.
After the game is Chimes, or Walk Ons usually has a band playing. It's definitely corporate, but the music is good. Saturday night downtown should be fun if you're staying in town. Lucky's, Boudreaux and Thibodeaux's, Happy's Irish Pub, Register Bar, City Bar, etc. Ivar's or Shlitz and Giggles under the overpass on Perkins Road.
11am kick sucks. Good luck.
