Thanks for posting
One night on the CPM show a kid called in & asked about Gilbert
You could hear how upset CPM was to tell him that we probably wouldn’t see Gilbert again but not go forget what he accomplished as a Tiger

Yips. It sucks for the guy, because he actually did something for the team besides post on a message board.
Hey man, Chris Reid did a lot for the team. No need to take thinly veiled shots at BT17. He was a solid player for LSU. The fact that he posts here doesn’t diminish that.

I seldom post anymore, but since I’m friends with a family member I’ll answer this. Caleb pitched his junior year with a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder. LSU gave him cortisone and lidocaine shots to keep him pitching. Anyone who had watched his fr and so season could tell everything had changed with his mechanics, due to the pain of throwing. After the season he went to Andrews in Bham, was told his tendons were shredded and rotator cuff was torn. He had surgery, to “clean it up” but the bottom line was the damage was done and not reversible. He worked his butt off all fall and spring trying to get back on the mound but the new shoulder couldn’t throw 96 anymore, or even close. He graduated with his Civil Engineering degree and has excepted a job with an engineering firm in Bham. Great kid who bleeds purple and gold! Yes I’m a big Caleb fan, he will be remembered for putting the team on his back in ‘17 by earning a win in the sec tournament, the regional, the super regional, and of course the cws. With a season stat line of 7-1, 1.96 era.

That seems extremely irresponsible on the coaches’ and medical staff’s parts.

It happens all the time. I’m sure Caleb consented and knew the dangers before hand. He’s a smart kid. He knew he wouldn’t be pursuing a pro ball career so he wanted to give as much as he could in college as that would be the end of his career.

Your post seems irresponsible. Maybe doctors said that the shoulder won’t get worse from pitching. Maybe Gilbert overrode the coaches.

Wish we could’ve seen a healthy Gilbert as a Friday night guy. Dude was a warrior and a real LSU tiger

Very unfortunate. Kid seems like a really good person and had great stuff. Wish him the very best in life!!

He couldn’t hit 85 if he tried last fall and eventually it broke him mentally

He got his engineering degree and will out earn Hess and Mr Nuke hitter. Simple.

That’s an unnecessary comment

So no, I’m not sorry one bit for stating an intelligent young man like him with an engineering degree who will earn over 100K starting out is going to out earn 2 guys picked in the 7th round where the likelihood of making to the mlb is slim to none 2.0%.

Thanks for the update. He was an asset to the team until all that happened. Wishing him the best in his career as a civil engineer, and wondering if half these posters could accomplish what he did either as a player or a student.

I fail to see how that is related to the discussion unless you think those two are in this thread posting.
You are personally hurt because people are rationally discussing what happened to Gilbert...and chose to disparage two other players.
And, if you had to push the subject, those two did a lot more for the program than Gilbert. Again, I don't think that's meaningful, but you basically begged for that with your post.

Shoulder was shot after surgery, never could get it back. He graduated in Civil Engineering.
Hate his baseball career ended like it did but it sounds like he is going to be successful regardless.

You're coming off as being an a-hole towards Hess and Peterson which is completely unwarranted and unnecessary.
