“Knowing LSU “ isn’t and shouldn’t be a factor in the job. Perfectly fine to prefer Godwin but that shouldn’t crack the top 10 of reasons because it’s largely meaningless

I meant it as a recruiting advantage.

Here's an actual quote from 1999 on another site:

Made Tenn the doormat of the SEC a respectable program in just a few years. The fact they want him back badly should tell you everything you need to know about how good of a coach he is. Where would he be at that program 5 years from now? He'd probably be in multiple Omaha runs maybe even a NC. You want a program builder as your HC and he has proven that. Not only that, he's young so his coaching ceiling may actually get better over time. He does the most he can with the less amount he has. His time as an assistant should motivate you more into his past too. He'd be a great recruiter here. Lastly, fits are important and he's a perfect fit for LSU's weaknesses right now in their program.

That feeling isn’t unwarranted, and of the names being bantered around Vitello has the least amount of HC-ing experience.

But make no mistake about it look at Tennessee’s record for the 3 years prior to Vitello and look at the 4 years since he got there. Tenn has improved every year he has coached and took a team that has only been to the CWS 4 times in their history back to the CWS.

It is actually pretty impressive what he has done at Tennessee, but I feel you are warranted in your trepidation!

Look at we’re he’s leaving and what school he coaches. Tennessee has been dormant for a decade. He’s been there 3 years and they got to Omaha. Not sure who’s coming and going but he has Tennessee baseball trending up while we struggled to get to a regional. We won the regional but let’s be honest. No reason LSU doesn’t host every year. Look at his time at Arkansas. I look at him like will wade ( basketball is a lot harder to get to the elite 8). He’s young, brash at times, energetic, and wants to win.
Nothing against Paul. I personally liked him, but he was more name on the door. The face of the program. Tony like skip is hit the ground running putting blocks in place to win.

UT trophy case is just as empty as it was when he got there. Unless they are now making “turned a program around” trophies.

McDonnell is still my #1a, but Vitello is definitely my #1b.

I guess McDonnell's buyout is too much or something? Never really hear anything about him anymore.

Sounds eerily similar to a current LSU coach. Hint his name rhymes with Phil Fade
