Well for starters …
“No one predicted any such thing and there was no hate for Wade.”
Both 100% not true

McMahon inherited a moribund program facing potential draconian sanctions.
Either this confirms these post are nothing but troll attempts...or there is some sort of approved talking points/verbiage report sent out by the McMahon fan club like the DNC does with the press.
quote:
Anyone viewing the situation objectively knew there was no quick fix.
That was the initial impression because no one really knew a world where entire rosters transferred. The anyone viewing the situation objectively realized that was now the norm, not some catastrophic anomaly, as LSU was not the only team THAT offseason to lose nearly all of its roster. Yet multiple teams fared much better than dead last in the conference and one of the worst power conf. teams in the nation.
quote:
There were signs of promise in 2024, but the season ending injury to Jalen Reed and the departure of Tyrell Ward due to personal issues derailed last season.
Promise? I'm not so sure. If anything, it was probably more on brand than anything else. As for Reed, he's one of the rare players who got "better" (in the eyes of the constant excuse makers) by NOT playing. Last year Reed had a really good game 1. Then, as he'd did in his first two seasons, he disappeared for the next 3 games. He then had two good games in West Virginia, before not doing all that much vs. NW State. He got hurt early in the FSU game and that was it. There is absolutely ZERO evidence besides just blind revisionist history that he would done anything more than what he did in his first two seasons at LSU. In fact, the trend in the first 7 games were in line with the previous two season.
It's bee 4 years of perpetual excuses. "moribund" programs with "draconian sanctions", players leaving, injuries, no money, moral victories, "not quitting", etc, etc, etc.
He's just not a good coach. It's as simple as that. It isn't the first time a major conf. program "missed" on a hire and it won't be the last. But the constant excuse making and bending over backwards to justify the worst record in the SEC over the last 3.5 seasons is absurd. It's like some see McMahon as a "Make-a-wish" kid getting to live out his dying dream of being an SEC basketball coach and, thus, he shouldn't be held to the same standards ever other coach in LSU history (not just basketball) has been.

False narratives and fantasy. Program is fine when he came, the lies about the roster he inherited have been exposed several times. What’s more telling is McMahon himself saying he could’ve kept more if the previous roster if he felt he needed but in his opinion he didn’t need those players. We were picked to finish 6-8 his first year but instead had the worst record in program history. Mcmen reject facts and reality

McFraud was fired by the Governor a couple months ago.

Correct and there are only really about 15-20 folks here who post about men's hoops at all with any regularity and I'm one of them.
That's apathy and that's worse than the worst haters or sunshine pumpers. When you have more of either of those at least you know people care.
And yes on the antagonism, it has evolved into that pretty deeply and not much real basketball talk going on.

Will Wade era was awesome!!! He recruited great players legally. I wish we never got rid of him for no reason. Let’s bring him back

I agree! Why in the hell would any fan want a coach that won at the highest clip in the program in a century ONLY because he was really good at getting the funds to pay players...at a time where it's necessary to pay players?
Go get a guy who will recruit "the right way" and only sign guys who love LSU and will stay for 3, 4, 5 years. THAT is what the program needs!

Recent interview with Verge he said they are questioning whether they can fund every sport to be champions like Skip Bertman wanted. He didn’t mention MBB but..,,…,
I saw that interview and yes I believe it applies to MBB.
Furthermore, if you follow football and how things are going down; you can see that wealthy boosters make a huge difference.
My question is do any boosters care enough about MBB and McMahon to support MBB? There is little evidence that they do.

There are donors who will support LSU basketball. The previous coach knew and still knows them. He made it a point to build relationships with them. The current one hasn't. End of story.

Why? Because McMahon has lost a ton and LSU PR is telling you so?
Let's do a case study on two programs. Vanderbilt and LSU.
Starting with last season here are the records of the programs to date:
Vanderbilt: 36-13 (11-10) [currently No. 4 in NET]
LSU: 26-22 (3-18)
So Vanderbilt must be getting exponentially more money than LSU, right? That is the ONLY explanation for the large discrepancy in the results
In 24 and 25 this is how many top 150 ranked transfers each program signed:
LSU 5
Vanderbilt 2
In 24 and 25 this is how many top 100 ranked HS recruits each program signed:
LSU 5
Vanderbilt 0
Doesn't it stand to reason that higher ranked players command higher "salaries"? Certainly that is what is being presumed in the football recruiting that is being celebrated right now. If that logic applies, then isn't it fair to think over the last two seasons LSU was spending more money than Vanderbilt given LSU has signed substantially more high ranked players (10-2)? Or are we to assume McMahon is such a great recruiter that he's been able to get top 100-150 players to commit to him on a "shoe-string" budget...at least compared to Vandy's coach who is signing very few of such guys
The amount of people seeming turning over every stone to find any reason EXCEPT McMahon simply being a poor coach to explain this horrid stretch of LSU basketball is mind-boggling. I guess the only explanation is there is so much apathy and disinterest in the program that most simply just except whatever group think narrative is out there rather than taking a few minutes to see if the data matches up to the narrative.

I wasn’t in on this because I am a football guy. But now I have an interest.
Ahmad Hudson Said he has an interest in nebraska because their basketball team is real good (and LSU’s sucks). He wants to play both sports in college.
NOW I have a dog in the hunt.
We need a new coach in place right after the season.
So it shall be done.

I don’t doubt this at all.

No, they liked Wade and like most of us they wanted him to stay, SW never had the muscle and McMahon never had what it took to get them back.

I don’t like using these lists ranking players. I can turn on my tv and see that our players aren’t as good as most of the SEC teams we are facing. Can’t you?
Now we did look better with our PG our highest paid player, but he got hurt. We would certainly be better if he played, right?
But McMahon has had four years. He hadn’t shown he can recruit our area, find diamonds in the rough, or convince boosters to help him bring in high end talent. That’s obvious.

Is it that the players are all inferior? Or is it that they are not being put in a position to have success, collectively, because of poor coaching? Including this season, McMahon has run through 40 different players. What's more likely? ALL of those guys were just inferior players? Or the ONE common denominator across all seasons, the HC, might be the issue? Florida won a NC last year with a roster of mostly mid-major transfers and 3 star HS recruits. McMahon's best result was one game over .500
No one is arguing LSU has lottery pick talent across this roster. But it is not so bad relative to the SEC that it should be a three year low in the league....by a relatively significant margin.
It's an odd juxtaposition that in football the coaching staff is blamed completely for the failures. Yet, somehow, in basketball it seems to be (for some) everyone's fault BUT the HC.

It's official horse shite Thomas isn't playing for the 4th game in a row,and 3 weeks! He is faking the injury because the school he's going to transfer to next year for much more money told him to fake an injury and sit out the rest of the year! Well MM is toast he will be gone the day the season ends!!!!!

It doesn't matter what he thinks this never works out. Some fans get tittilaed when one of their gridiron warriors shows up on the court in mid Janary only to depart in a couple of weeks. The demands of school and workouts for football are enough.

Agreed. However, Tre'dez most definitely didn't look out of place athletically last season vs. Alabama and Auburn. LSU could have used his physicality off the bench for 10-15 mpg. I wonder why he abruptly left after the Arkansas game even though he was getting PT? I'm guessing he looked at the 1-10 SEC record and thought "this is a waste of time. I'll just go back to working out with the football team"

That will be the day our program resurrects from this seemingly never ending nightmare. It’ll be nice to catch up with the rest of the conference
