Have any of you gone through a career change? If so where do you start? I am currently very fortunate and have a well paying job, but the industry I am in (Long Term Care) is incredibly stressful and I am not sure if this is something I want to do for the long hall.

I have great experience dealing with people and in management overall. I have found that looking outside of healthcare is tough and I would not be sure where to start. Any advice or how and where to start looking would be great!

Cybersecurity. Work on a few certifications while at your job and get your foot in the door. Most cybersecurity positions are WFH and pay pretty decent.

I did in my late 20s. Once I realized that I did not like the path my career was going, I decided to go back to my original plan when entering college and get my accounting degree as well as become a CPA. I started by going back to school at nights and getting my MBA as well as the required courses/credits to sit for the CPA exam. Once I graduated, I started looking for jobs in the industry and ended up at a small local firm.

First step would be to figure out what you think you want to do. Then start researching the best way to get there, more education, some self-study courses, licensing, starting over at entry level.... Then decide if the route you need to take will be worth it in the long run as you'll be replacing one stressor with a new stressor.

Yeah you guys do have a stressful job. No Medicare beds, no money.

Are you married with kids? If you don't have any financial responsible then just save money and quit to learn something new.

If you do, then sacrifice your nights and weekends for something in the tech field.

What about the sales side of that industry? Plenty of insurance sales jobs out there and you have the direct experience with the product you’d be selling.

I am looking at shifting into energy, power generation and renewables. The space is booming and, like it or not, there is too much federal and venture/PE money involved to turn back now. It's been nearly impossible to break into though with no past experience and location restrictions.

LTC is a tough sell and those type of jobs are typically commission only.

A lot of it has to do with opportunity and who's willing to give you one.

Much of these opportunities will come from smaller companies who need people to get shite done in my experience. Lots of risk, but lots of upside.

Unfortunately, escaping stress in todays world is hard to come by IMO.

Personally with your experience I would just pivot out of LTC but stay in healthcare administration. Just look for something less stressful than your current position (those jobs are out there).

I'd be tempted to try self employment over trying to build a second career. Sounds exhausting.

I'd recommend a book called "what color is your parachute". It's a good guide on mid-life career changes. Give it a look.
