If annual bonuses count, I make a little over 100k per year and I work 7:30-4:30. I fully utilize my hour lunch break though, so I would say I come in at just over 40 hours.

I'm at nearly 100k for the year already and on average I work 7-4 M-Th and 7-11 on Friday. BUT, there may be something at any point that requires me available 24/7. Lots of calls during off hours. Not very easy to take vacations and such. When my projects are working, I'm expected to be avaiable 24/7. I've spent roughly 2 weeks this year at the office 20 out of 24 hours each day. But thats only a handful of occasions. Probably 3 projects run per year and last a month. 1 or 2 all nighters per project.

One lady that works for me makes about a 100k, and she sometimes tells me they have no money for groceries until she gets paid. Boggles my mind.

I'd bet this lady also couldn't tell you what her money is actually being used for.

There are. But you can't go by salary and tell that. Look at the percentage of pro athletes and entertainers who wind up bankrupt. The financial game of life is as much about money management as money generation, at least once you pass a certain necessary minimum.

yeah. some people are just stupid with money. My father recently retired, and I know despite making over 100k for over 20 years he is going to run out of money within 5. he just can't not spend everything in his checking account.

A few years ago, I had to explain to him what an ETF was, what an IRA was (and why he needed one), how bonds worked, etc. He is just financially retarded.

and will cover, you are right, I am sure she has no idea where her money is going.

It's hilarious.

Honestly though, I have no clue how much any of my friends or family make, or how many hours they work. Whenever people say "yeah my neighbor makes about $85K" I'm like, do you do his taxes for him?

Not me. While I make way over 100k a year just with my day job I'm putting in between 60 to 70 hours. I would be under 100k with just 40 hours

I wouldn't be surprised if the money board attracted a slightly wealthier crowd.

I actually discuss it with my friends and family. It can be a mistake, but I think the concept of money being a taboo topic is a disservice to us all.

I don't necessarily talk salary with family and friends but I definitely talk personal finance. I hate watching people just waste their hard earned money.

Have said that, I guess I qualify for this thread. I make over $100k and while I clock 40 hours per week i do about 35 hours of real work during the week. Never more than 40 hour weeks and I'm always home by 4:30pm while getting every other friday off.

South Texas? 1099?

SEMO 1099. It was really nice up until about 2 years ago. I worked about 30 hrs/wk. 270k with 11 weeks of vacation. That run lasted about 8 years for me. They made us hire Anesthesiologist and our pay dropped 30k, lost 3 weeks of vacation, and our hours went up. Looking for another CRNA group now. Those docs really screw shite up

What does that mean?

I think frank discussion of finances is useful. And only one friend has refused to engage on the topic.

We never get super specific on salary, but we do discuss budgets in detail. Debt. Cars. Etc.

It has caused one problem with a ghetto rich friend, who thinks I have unlimited funds or more appropriately I should spend everything I make.

I'll have to take their word on the 6 figures but, judging by the posting rate, it's pretty indisputable about the "less than 40 hours" part.

I work 37.5 hours and make more than 100k.

edit: I live in NYC though so it's not that hard to make more than 100k if you are a professional.

I've actually had a friend get his taxes done by another friend's wife. She was apparently not one to keep her mouth shut and told everyone exactly what he made .

Know better than to make that mistake.

In regards to making 100k and working less than 40 hours being apparently popular, I think people don't really consider some aspects of their job work. A lot of roles at the 100k mark don't require you to sit at your desk constantly. A lot of it is being available at all times. So I don't put in near 40 hours a week in the office, but if you include phone calls, emails, stress taking days off of my life , I easily put in more than the average Joe does with my workload. It's just a lot of it is catching a 10 minute phone call at 8 p.m., or an hour long conference call on Saturday when I'm still laying in bed. A lot of people probably don't include that in their "work hours".

I never really sat down and figured the hours I work but If I had to guess it would avg less than 40 in office. I could add extra for answering emails, returning calls etc. when I'm out of the office but then I could also deduct time while in the office perusing TD.

Mar - Apr 60-70 hrs per week
May 40
Jun-Aug 20-25
Sep - Oct 40
Nov - Feb 30

Is anyone really "working" all 8 (or more) hours they are at the office?

Is chatting with a client or coworker considered "working" because you are establishing rapport?
