Update wills and establish trust
Start spending dividends instead of reinvesting
Begin Roth conversions
Biggest goal is to shift to a spending mindset instead of accumulation. 3 years into an early retirement and it's hard to break the good habits that got us here.

My main goal is to stay the course.

- Continue putting as much towards retirement and HSA
- Maintain employment
- Increase emergency fund to 8 - 12 months living expenses

What I would like to do, but not really important:
- Purchase land for recreation
- Dip my toes further into my taxable investments that I've not really touched in 5 years.
- Leverage a financial advisor or some professional advice to evaluate my family's current financial health and help with short-term and long-term goals.

My wife and I had our third child in 2025. Life is moving so fast, I'm prioritizing the stay the course aspect until I get my feet back underneath me.

My only goal in 2026 is to not get fired from my job. That’s it. I do not have a great relationship with my boss and I have suffered because of this both emotionally and more financially.

My goal is to fully fund the 401k ($86,000, I believe this year or thereabouts), fund again my Roth and my wife’s Roth, and also fully fund the HSA. We have been doing this now for several years. If I can get through one more year it will allow us to further “feather our nest” and better prepare for retirement.

Money wise we’re good, but we don’t really have a plan for what to do once I’m retired (wife is SAHM). I need to think on that some more. We have two kids still at home but one will be leaving in August for school. Once she’s gone we will have my youngest still at the house entering her sophomore year of HS. The idea is to keep working until she’s out of HS for the benefits and health insurance but I don’t think I can make it that long.

My goal for 2026 is to reasonably navigate having third child and purchasing / building new house financially.

I have done well getting the wife into the habit of saving a significant portion of our monthly income, which was in large part due to our first house being below what we could afford.

Six years later and have now outgrown it and need to upsize. Our salaries have also increased pretty significantly since our initial purchase.

So goal is to find the right balance between enjoying our hard work and buying something we can’t afford / isn’t going to allow us to continue to aggressively save.

It certainly does. Not everyone has someone they can discuss things with IRL. This is as good of a place as any.

1. Grow my new business to at least be enough so my wife can cut back her hours at work
2. Save more (establish decent emergency fund)
3. Spend less
4. Learn more about investing

I have historically not made good choices financially. So as far as our bank accounts go, they arent in great shape. We arent in any debt other than one car and the house, but I'd like to have a solid savings cushion which we dont currently have. I'd also like to start maxing out our two 401Ks and Roth accounts as well as hsa, but I dont see that happening this year.

1rst world problem, but in the same boat. It has been surprisingly hard to get out of old mode. Wealth has gone up every year since I "retired".

Agree. And some of us have retired from their day jobs, which affects interactions and financial discussions. I can also say that nobody outside of this board has asked me about goals since I left the workforce.

better, usually. would you rather discuss ideas with people with similar real world experience or a hypothetical with someone being paid to steer you one way or another?

By posting it, it makes me feel more accountable to achieve it. Not that I think anyone on here gives a shite. Makes it seem more real to me that just having it in my head. I just imagine all the shite posters making fun of me if I miss my goals. Motivation.

Plus, it's a message board and a question was asked. I'm always curious how I stack up in the grand scheme of things and how others got/maintained their wealth. If you're doing well, some see it as bragging, but there are posters on here with immense wealth and great insights. It can take awhile to figure out who,but if you pay attention you can learn a few things.

This board has definitely made me money and helped me learn more about crypto, vending machines, and other money talk related issues.

Great post.

I figured out years ago that I can't talk to friends about money. During the crash immediately following covid, I casually mentioned that I was down a few hundred grand and that I planned to invest more during the downturn. My buddy who I thought was my financial peer said, "whoah, you must have a big 401k".

I don't mention anything anymore.

Yeah let's just take a small snippet of a very vocal side of that life in the biggest Greek systems and apply it to all schools.
