Impressive, but not a full season. Outside of HR, Judge wipes the floor with him in other meaningful offensive categories. The only way Judge doesn’t win is due to voter fatigue.

So is he the new Dong King?

This vote will be fascinating. Baseball writers are a weird bunch and have a hard time just factoring in the current season. Like Judge should have won the MVP his rookie season, but got robbed by Altuve, who had a great season for a 2nd baseman, but probably won it for the novelty of a 2B being that productive and thinking that was his only chance to win it, and Judge, being a rookie, would have plenty more chances. Kinda like Terry Pendleton winning in ‘91 over Bonds.
Altuve won the batting title that year, hitting .348 to Judge’s .284, but Judge lead the AL in walks and actually had a higher OBP than Altuve (.422 to .410) and obviously had a higher SLG (.627 to .547) making his OPS almost a full tenth better than Altuve’s (1.429 to .957). Judge would have lead the AL in all 3 of those were it not for Mike Trout, who played in 41 less games. Besides walks, Judge also lead the AL in HRs (52 to Altuve’s 24) and runs (128 to 112) for those curious about counting stats. Judge finished 2nd in RBI with 114 (Nelson Cruz lead with 119. Altuve had 84, but I’m pretty sure Judge was leading off that season too). They both had an 8.1 WAR, but that had to be based on their respective defensive positions. Guess who finished 3rd that year with 8.0 WAR? Andrelton Simmons, who slashed .278/.331/.421 and all of 14 HRs, 69 RBI, and 77 runs scored.
Anyway, Judge should have 3 MVPs already, and I think it would make it easier for them to give it Cal this year if he already had that 3rd one in the bank. But he’s already 33 and missed significant time in ‘21 and ‘23, and there’s no guarantee that a 6’7” 280 pound giant is going to put together another healthy season like this, and it would be a shame if he wound up with only 2 MVPs in his Hall of Fame career.
Off the top of my head, Roger Marris, Joe Morgan, and Dale Murphy all had 2 MVPs. Dale Murphy is my favorite player ever, and Joe Morgan was a Hall of Famer in the middle of one of the best lineups in Major League history. Roger Marris had a couple of all-time seasons, but greatly benefited from hitting next to Mickey Mantle, who should have won at least of Marris’s MVPs (like Jeff Kent winning over Bonds that year). All very good-great players, but nowhere near the player peak Judge is nor did they finish their careers anywhere near where Judge is projected to. My point is that there’s a big difference in winning 2 and winning 3.
Judge is clearly the best player in the AL this year and is having clearly the best season. He should win it. But it’s hard to ignore the novelty of a switch hitting catcher hitting 60+ home runs. That’s just absurd, and I doubt that will ever happen again in any of our lifetimes. (Btw, somebody asked how long Cal will catch, and if it were up to me, he’d have caught his last game a long time ago. That’s just not sustainable).
Anyway, like I said, it will be fascinating to see how they vote. I predict Judge will win—his overall numbers and 9.3 to 7.2 WAR will be too hard to ignore. And we’ll never know, but I think if Judge had rightfully won it in ‘17, then Cal probably wins this year. We’ll see.

See my long-arse post. Judge has only won it twice. If “voter fatigue” factors in, it will be more that they think Judge will likely win more going forward. However, considering injuries, that’s not a given. I mean, he could run off 3 or 4 in a row after this year. Or he could turn into Mike Trout and miss 50 games a season.

Guys are SCARED of Judge. 5-6 and 8-9 on base in last two games. Unbelievable

You're on your knees for Judge more games per year than Raleigh is behind the plate. Impressive.

Raleigh is homer or strikeout and is mid as a catcher. Judge is much better all around hitter, and is an elite outfielder. When the automated balls/strikes happen, Judge is going to hit 65+
You have no idea how catching takes it out of a player. It’s an absolute grind.

Has ESPN constantly cut into his at bats like they did with Judge in 2022?

And what Judge started in the outfield how many times? You really are trying to find an angle to knock Cal down for his position which is crazy. Last year’s gold glover who is leading the league in home runs and is a big reason his team won its first division title since 2001. Yankees throw money at talent every year. You take each player away from both teams and I’d be willing to bet the Mariners would have a far worse record than the Yankees.

It’s not a knock, just context.
And No one cares about gold gloves. Those are media-driven awards and do not go to the best, just the most popular. It has zero bearing on mvp candidacy.
The metrics say Raleigh is an above average pitch framer, but average to below in blocking & throwing. He’s not a bad catcher by any means but his defensive at the position isn’t swaying a vote either.

Sorry your argument is Judge as a fielder. He is a great player on offense and not in any discussion on defense. One dimensional. Hank Aaron award makes more sense for him. Value to a team I go with what Cal brings all around.

Judge is a better RF than Raleigh is a catcher, but that isn’t exactly one of my focuses when it comes to mvp.
Judge just had one of the best non-Barry bonds offensive seasons in the last 80 years or so. Not just focusing on HRs in a juiced ball season.
It will come down to voter fatigue. Any other year Raleigh probably wins it easily. And he still may. But judge has been better.

Since Barry Bonds cheated, he does not count. In that vein, Judge is having one of the greatest offensive seasons ever
