Dude represents everything shitty about the modern style of play in MLB. In no way is that dude a HOFer, gotta do more than hit homers and walk

Pretty sure Schwarbs hit about .315 his first year with the Cubs.
After that, it was HR or walk.

So you think Joey Votto is a first ballot HOF?

He’s basically dollar general Adam Dunn. So no

I was coming to post something similar before reading through the thread.

Dunn was the precursor to the modern MLB, but gets knocked because he played before BA was thrown out of the window.

In short, no Schearber is not a HOFer. Nothing he does is special. In 15 years there will be another 100 players with similar numbers

No way. He's 32. And only had 3 seasons above 3 WAR.

Yes he can, analytics nerds care about WAR but the Hall of Fame voters still care about those career home runs, hits, and wins. If no one is getting to the current thresholds over time theyll lower them

Plus remember he was a 2016 Cub, involved in that game 7 in a big way after missing most of the season. If he isn’t voted in that team might have 0 hall of famers. He’s their best shot

He is somewhat of an anomoly in that his best year, this year - is relatively late in his career, he's 32 I believe.

He was basically Dave Kingman for the first 9 years of his career, lots of homers, low-low batting average, below average fielder, lots of K's.

Last year and this he started hitting better overall. I think banning the overshift helped some in that regard but he still elevated his batting in other ways. He always walked a good bit but takes even more walks now.

Kingman hit 442 homers and did not get in or even close. I love Schwarbs as a Cub fan, but he'd have to have probably about 3-4 more years like this year at least to get in the conversation, and he's getting older not younger so might be tough. But right now he's not even close honestly.

He’s not even close to Dunn in counting stats thru the same age

He would be a worse "Huh?" than Harold Baines.

How many years did Harold Baines hit .240 or lower?

I wonder how much the voters care about average these days.. Schwarber isn't far behind Baines in career OBP and is ahead in career SLG and OPS.

I still think Schwarber would have to defeat aging though and tack on 4+ more seasons like he's having now to be a remote possibility. That's very unlikely.

If he has 4 more seasons close to this season he’ll be a career 55ish war and be top 25 all time in homers. I don’t know how you keep him out.

If he has 2 more like this one and is serviceable as a DH until age 38 season he ends up right around 500 homers

His career WAR of 19.7. His WAR this year is 4.4. 4 more seasons like this, would, generously, give him a career WAR of 38 entering his age 37 season.

Math sucks sometimes, but he wasn’t very good for most of his career.

He MIGHT match Dave Kingman’s stats and he never sniffed the HOF
