The players association was involved, but the guy who investigated was the head of the testing program.
From the report:
"The NFL and NFLPA responded by asking John Lombardo, the administrator of the performance-enhancing drug testing program for 28 years, to look into the matter."
Did anyone really think Lombardo would respond with anything else? Reid may well have exaggerated or lied, but does anyone think the guy who oversees PED testing would respond that Reid was targeted?

If there was a question of impropriety, why would the players association sign off on the statement?
The fact that it was a joint statement certainly implies that they agree with the findings.

And it's not even hard to read people like Eric Reid. I'm not some Nostradamus. It's just that when you know their angle, and you know how these people act based on others just like them, they are easy to read. I didn't say for sure he was lying, but I've known enough of these kinds of people to know not to put it past them.
And when I say "these people", I mean people with a grievance agenda who push a victim narrative.
