Long Held Conventions Indiana Busted

The blue chip ratio/stars matter
Certain programs aren’t capable of winning a national title
You can’t build a national champion from the transfers
Indiana busted all these long held conventions, and their success should change the way every P4 program thinks about what it can hope to achieve and how to build a roster.

It absolutely matters.

I think there’s a bit of nuance missing here.

I don’t think this is replicable without Cig though

It still matters, but before this IU team, no team had won a national title game with less than 50% blue chips (4/5 stars).
Indiana did it with less than 10%. They are 72nd nationally, behind multiple G5 teams and dead last in the B1G, in 247’s team talent rankings.

What power conference program cannot win one if Indiana can?
I’m not saying these conventions are dead or worthless now, but this millennium, these beliefs were absolute until this IU team.

I meant true as in I agree with you.
Talent acquisition is the biggest factor. I’d like to see how many of the transfers from Indiana were from JMU. I’d also like to know the average age of the starters for Indiana.

I think he’s very detailed oriented and holds his players accountable but he doesn’t seem like an extreme hardass.

Indiana has busted the mold. You're seeing it now if you follow the portal. Bringing in G5 and FCS guys who produced. Production over stars.
It's just a different world now.

There's been plenty of teams who tried to be Indiana and none have succeeded. I wouldn't make any sweeping generalizations after this game. Cignetti is the real deal and anyone trying to replicate what Indiana did at other schools will be a coach short.

Covid busted the mold.
Not until now did 24 yr olds play on college teams.
It will slowly go away.
Teams that can purchase 3rd and 4th year players that have built up their NIL will do well.
Good night for 23/24 year old players that know it's their last chance to prove they just weren't born with the skill or size others have used to get a 5th star. I'm happy for them.

The guy who created the blue chip ratio has openly said that an extremely old team with a heisman type qb would break it.
Player evaluations are now more important than ever so identifying talent is even more critical.

They'll likely go undefeated again next season with Ohio State at home and a road game with Michigan.

Here we go again with people taking an anamoly and trying to make sense of it. You cant. Much like LSU '19, they found lightning in a bottle. It cant be duplicated.
Anamoly-something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected.
Indiana in a nutshell.
