Generally speaking, meeting fans at a bowl game(or even an away game) tends to lend itself to a positive experience. This is because you have to have money to travel. And people with money tend to be less trashy in public.

Yes, like that. The difference is, Nebraska fans actually LIKE Oklahoma. They have great respect and admiration for them, even though they were the #1 rivalry in college football for years. LSU fans, on the other hand, aren't too friendly when it comes to their rivals.
If you've ever been to Omaha for the CWS, you know what Nebraska folks are like. Just good people. Not to mention I've never seen a fan base travel like them, even in down years. Remember when They turned the House that Rockne Built into the Sea of Red?
Tracey's in the Irish Channel is a Nebraska bar. Go on any given Saturday and it's packed with Husker fans.
They have a game in IRELAND next year. You can damn well bet that entire stadium is gonna be red.

I've had the opposite experience in bars across the country but just shows you then that this question is bullshite.
People take 0.00001% of the fans they've met and extrapolate.
The only thing we have on a large scale is anecdotal snapshopts like Philly fans pelting Santa or Nebraska fans giving Udub a standing ovation in 1991 after they whipped their Huskers in Lincoln.
Otherwise people are just going off of personal experience of a few fans they met.
