I would think it has more to do with the fact that no rookie QB has ever even played in a Super Bowl, much less won one, but if you’d rather make it about race, be my guest.

Cam Newton has played very well during preseason but also pundits like Cowherd are obsessed with QBs who have "athletic ability" in the modern age of football. They don't think a true pocket passer can succeed anymore and they have labeled Mac Jones as a true pocket passer. The problem is, that's not entirely accurate. Jones is more athletic than people give him credit for and his forty time is actually better than the "athletic" Patrick Mahomes. Jones just doesn't use his wheels to scramble all that often. He uses them to move comfortably within the pocket.

However, that shirtless pic of Mac Jones from two years ago haunts him in journalist circles. They see that dad bod and automatically assume he's slower than molasses.

And Tom Brady is still the reigning, undisputed, defending super bowl champion of the world. But they love to talk about a running qb.

That and they conveniently forget that, at age 42, Brady - who is probably the most un-athletic QB in the NFL - threw for over 4,600 yards and 40 TDs last year. As a pocket passer. I don't get everyone's obsession with this idea that you need dual threat guys like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, or Dak Prescott to succeed in today's game.

Dak was never that athletic in the pros. Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson are the only true running qbs, and Lamar can't throw if his life depended on it. The Ravens will never go to a super bowl with Lamar.

Clearly, it’s a phase.

Just like most of the NFL’s history when it was claimed you couldn’t win with a dual threat QB. The NFL has always leaned toward the unathletic, “smart” guy over the athletic freak.

But the game has changed.

He can be.

False.

Deshaun Watson, Josh Allen, Russell Wilson and Cam Newton are all true running QBs. Some of them just so happen to be really good as passing, too, which doesn’t force them to always run. Some offenses also scheme around their QB running while others don’t.

The guy has a career passer rating of 102.6, career completion percentage of 64%, and has thrown for over 3 x’s as many TD as INT. He’s also 30-7 as a starter. PLUS his rushing numbers.

So, yeah, he sucks.

I would say that when playing well and healthy Cam Newton is exciting. At his peak he was one of the best Fantasy Football QBs with his rushing TDs. He can be an exciting player to watch.

Plus, no one likes Alabama so it's fun to root against Mac Jones.

Again, wrong. It’s almost like you’re a dumb frick.

Baltimore beat Tennessee in the playoffs last year.

I’m just taking cues from what the media has already blatantly established.

Listened to sports radio earlier tonight. Two stations actually. They were so hardcore in support of Cam Newton bring the undisputed starter. No question about it and nobody could understand a world where anyone even brought up the idea of Mac Jones starting.

Sounds like you’re just listening to bad radio but Cam very likely will be the starter for week 1

No idiot it’s because like 3-4 years ago he was a perineal top QB winning MVP awards so it’s hard for people to accept he fell off a cliff so fast

Well alot of people don't like Cam because he's a black QB. So yes, it's a race thing.
