I watched it a few nights ago.

After all that’s happened with the CIA and Trump lately I can’t see those people as heroes.

And that ogre John Brennan needs to rot in GITMO.

The one person whining about the intel community being criticized and blamed for 9/11 came off as a bit tone deaf.

On episode 2.

Cannot take the pansies saying water boarding, torturing the prisoners at Guantanamo was wrong.

Like shut the frick up. You have the guy that planned 9/11. Should have fricking removed body parts until he gives up Bin Laden or is dead

Good series. The story about Bin Laden surviving the B52 bombing - didn’t realize that.

Wish they gave more info about Bin Laden mission.

Still remember Geraldo Rivera speculating that the press conference was maybe Bin Laden was dead. Turns out he was right.

What I thought. Thanks for confirming.

It's not mentioned enough how lucky Obama got with the whole deal.

Coptor crashing and a failed mission would have been political suicide most likely.

Don't like the dude but respect he was able to get this done and took what appeared to be a pretty big gamble.

One thing left out of the whole story in this and Zero Dark is the fact that Changiz Lahidgi was the man that really located him. Changiz is the first muslim Green Beret and has around 200 combat missions. He served on the ODA teams longer than any other human. Every major confrontation or mission since the Iran Hostage Crisis he has been involved with. Google him up or read his book Full Battle Rattle.

He was my supervisor from 84-89 and I learned a lot from him.

After watching, I have a lot more respect for him. And how he handled it. He inherited a War on Terror going nowhere and at least set an achievable goal.

He upped the ante in finding Bin Laden when GW had let it fall to the back burner.

He had the guts to send our military into a foreign country to get him, GW wouldn’t do anything outside of air strikes when it mattered.

The right wing media had a field day with that famous picture of him sitting off to the side in the room like a spectator, but it turns out, he just moved to a small room on his own and everyone else followed.

Agree with all of this. And all of this was the real “what did I learn that I didn’t generally already know?” from watching the documentary.

massive gamble

Say both choppers get shot down, all on board dead, and then the intel leaks that OBL wasn't even there.

Shooting Bin Laden. More than one other SEAL has said his version of events isn't accurate.
this is a pretty hotly contested topic for some reason in the seal community. Some say Rob lied, some say he didn’t and that those calling him a liar are just haters and people who think he shouldn’t be bragging about it and needs to stay a “silent professional” and therefore try to bring him down a peg. Idk what’s 100% accurate but it seems like Rob o Neil at the very least was on seal team 6, was on the mission and put a round in bin Laden at some point. Whether he was the first shooter who actually killed him or not and the sequential stories and books he’s written are fact or fiction idk. But he seems to be a reliable enough source when wanting to get info for what happened the night OBL was killed. Since he was 100% present when it occurred

Zero Dark Thirty had the best line around the gamble situation though.

“What’s the political risk of doing nothing?”

Such a badass flick.

Joe Biden voting "no" to the mission, what a pussy.

I wonder if the female agent that went anonymous in the interviews was the primary woman that Jessica Chastain's character was based on.

Agreed. This is why it irritated me when early in the thread the guy bitched about the series "giving Obama all the credit". I didn't vote for the guy and still wouldn't vote for the guy. In fact, I can't stand him with a passion. But he ultimately had to make the decision on whether to proceed or not, and it doesn't appear folks gave him a lot of warm and fuzzies that OBL was even there.

I really enjoyed this documentary. Episode 3 was great. I don't care for Obama or his politics and overall thought he was a lousy president, but I can now definitely appreciate the call he had to make to give the mission a go. Admittedly I've never delved too far into the manhunt as far as reading books or research or whatnot so for me this docuseries was very informative and gave a bunch of behind the scenes information that I'd never heard before. Makes me wanna go read some books to get other perspectives though.

Too many of you are convinced that any reference to Obama whatsoever is an example of the “liberal media” over - praising him. That’s the obsession.
