Supposedly he plowed his costar on film back in the 70s.

Don't recall what film.

Would that be Caligula and Helen Mirren?

Want to say it was early/mid 70s but Caligula is a possibility I guess.

he was the narrator on the TLC series "The Great Books Festival".
Really helped to make that whole series outstanding. They can still be found on Youtube.

Great Books' Homer's Odyssey

Great Books' Plato's Republic

Great Books Moby Dick

Great Books Walden

Great Books War of the Worlds

Great Books: Galileo's Dialog

Great Books - One flew over the Cuckoo's nest

Great Books Lord of the Flies

Le Morte d'Arthur

Great Books - Freuds.Interpretation.of.Dreams

Great Books Don Quixote

Great Books - The Prince Machiavelli

These are all so very good and Sutherland's voice was a big part of them.

There are more if you can find them...

I met Kristy Swanson at a convention in Lafayette. I went to her table to tell her that my friend was a huge Buffy fan and couldn't make it, but had made me promise to say hi to "Buffy". She told me to get my phone out and she recorded a message to my friend. No charge, just someone being nice because they're a nice person.

So the old Hollywood story behind this scene (which Sutherland loved to tell) was that Sutherland (who was added to the cast as last minute replacement) was given this scene because Clint Walker was uncomfortable with the multi-layered role of pretending to be a soldier pretending to be a general. They gave Sutherland the scene, where he was instructed to look back at his friends for one shot during the inspection. Sutherland decided to mug for the camera, the people casting M*A*S*H were impressed by the irreverence of his character in the scene, and his career was launched.

In his interview with Bob Costas, Sutherland was asked if he'd ever met Alan Alda. Sutherland said that he was seated in a theater for an event, and he felt someone gently touch his shoulder. He turned around and Alan Alda was seated behind him. Alda leaned forward and softly said, "I want to thank you for my life."

Jane Fonda during filming of Klut. It's mentioned earlier in the thread.

What costar didn't she sleep with in the 60's and 70's?

Great actor. But if I remember well, he died ashamed of being white.

Yeah, but they had a pretty significant relationship. They were part of the "Free the Army" (FTA was the commie answer to the USO) folks as a couple.

Fonda is overrated as an actor. Sutherland is not (probably Top 3 best actors who never won an acting Oscar.)

At least Sutherland had the decency to retract some of his pro-North Vietnam statements once their genocidal nature became public. Hanoi Jane never did. She only soft-pedaled some of her stances when it affected her career, personally, as a producer in the late 80s/early 90s. Even then, it was half-hearted.

Damn all the unique and talented ones are starting to die off. Now we're told that people like Timothée Chalamet and Amandla Stenberg are the A listers
