Watching the first episode
I like how they kept the theme and music
Freddy seems funny. Niles and Daphne’s son is kinda lame. I like the banter between Finch and Allan. Sorta Niles-Roz vibes

He seemed like a little overkill at first. In the second episode he had a few well-timed gags…they didn’t seem to have the ease of DHP, but still played well.
My memory is a little fuzzy, but I seem to remember when Daphne was pregnant in Frasier, they made it a joke that he didn’t like classical music and were concerned he’d be like Daphne’s brothers.

As the episode went on they made him a little more Niles-y which was nice

My wife watches Frasier literally every night to go to sleep. I’ve become somewhat of an expert on the show if you go by hours logged. One of the things that made it so funny was that Frasier and Niles were so uptight and quirky. In this show, they’ve gone with every character is quirky and neurotic. It’s only 2 episodes in, so I’ll reserve judgement. But so far it feels more like the Roseanne reboot than anything new and fresh.
Also, and I get why it has one, but laugh tracks feel very dated. For some reason if you watch an old show with a laugh track it’s not that bad, but new content with one feels kinda cheesy.

I burst out laughing at that line just from the thought of it.

Could have sworn that the announcer’s voice recording on that Air Hockey Table was David Hyde Pierce. It’s either him or they worked hard to make it sound like him.

Need Niles and Daphne and you know they won’t do it because Grammar is a big republican. Many of his friends have black listed him.
Good Lord, he literally shopped a pilot with Alec Baldwin of all people last year and is still doing sideshow Bob for the Simpsons, plus he hasn't stopped working as an actor or producer since Frasier originally ended. Some of y'all are so ate up with politics it's unreal.
Anyway, I enjoyed the first 2 episodes. The nephew is annoying but I think that's gonna be a plot device as the season moves along.

My wife watched it, and while enjoying it, said the second episode is basically a rehash of the either first or second episode of the original.
Did you get that impression as well?

I guess I'll stick with it since the first 2 episodes aren't bad.

Supposedly Grammar and Pierce are still very good friends. And they were also close to Mahoney and the female cast members too.
I don’t think any of the casting decisions have to do with politics. I know the Reddit progressives like to see everything through that lens but I don’t think it reflects reality.
I suspect the actor that plays Niles wants to be very well compensated for a role that he’s already played for over a decade. And guest appearances alone won’t justify that cost…but it would further typecast the actor into that persona and potentially tie up his availability.
They can’t bring a now 60+ year old Niles back for a major role easily, and I don’t think the audience would appreciate it unless there is a major change. Making fun of a man in his late 30s for his idiosyncrasies and dorky behavior is cheeky….but doing so again when he’s over 60 years old is just kind of sad. It would feel mean spirited and unoriginal to just make this the 12th season of the original Fraiser.
They never mentioned if Niles was even still alive, so I suspect they are still negotiating with the actor. The Niles character had a major heart problem in the latter part of the Fraiser run. They can keep the character alive if the actor wants to jump in periodically or they have a very clear avenue of killing him off while reintroducing Daphne if they want.
I liked the first 2 episodes. I will continue to watch. I hope to see periodic appearances from Bebe Neuwirth soon. She probably won’t show up until Fraiser has some kind of love interest with a new character.

This is what I read a couple months ago in an article about the reboot. I don't think Pierce has a problem with Grammer, he just isn't interested in playing that role again.

I thought the same thing when I heard it. Fwiw, given the fact that the original show was known for having similar voice cameos from famous people, and “easter eggs” were hinted at, I would not rule it out.

Those were my absolute favorites. I could watch a whole season of them.

I was curious so I looked up his work history and the only non-theatre work he's done in the last 6 years is a show on HBO Max. HE hasn't been in a movie in 13 years. I tend ot agree with the other posts in that he's probably just finished wiht that chapter of his career and doesn't really care to play the role anymore.

The creators said Pierce read the original premise for the reboot and just said he didn't feel like he could bring anything new to the character. They said he was super cool about it all and was supportive of the idea, he just felt like the character was done for him.

Any of the main cast never has to work again. The residuals they receive for being so successful and making so many episodes are so lucrative every single one of them are rolling it dough.
