Finally watched this one. Went into it with low expectations and was still disappointed.

Assuming Romans even knew what a shark was, how the frick would you catch one and keep it alive for the entire trek back to Rome?

I agree with the second part of what you said. But why wouldn’t the Romans know what a shark is? They owned the Mediterranean.

I can't bring myself to watch this movie and ruin the first movie. It's best to act like it doesn't exist like the Star Wars sequel trilogy. It's all just a dream.

It's not worth the 2+ hours of your time. But even though I wasted 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back watching it, it doesn't effect my opinion of the first one in the slightest. Outside of the ridiculously dumb parts that are just too dumb to forget, it's a very forgettable movie.

If you’ve toured the Colosseum, you’d know it’s possible to have flooded it. It would have been a massive engineering feat, but the Romans did that kind of shite…

Loved the first one.

I had no interest at all in seeing the second. The trailers looked ridiculous and i also suffer from Pedro Pascal fatigue

One of the best releases this year. Even if you hated it, it’s still better than 28 Weeks Later

How is the water holding in the arena? How do you get massive ships inside the arena? How are the Gladiators just hanging out in the locker rooms and the locker rooms not be completely flooded with water? Sharks? Really?

To be fair, pretty sure this is historically accurate.
EDIT: Yep. Pretty cool.

The movie, though, was a collection of this reaction

If you read the rest of the thread you see I acknowledge that there were naval reenactments/fights. But that doesn't make the one Gladiator II even close to historically accurate.

Even the article you linked shows that...

quote:

Due to the size restraints of the Colosseum, it is unlikely that the naval battles held there were as grand as those held by Caesar or Augustus. While the site was big enough to hold several ships and their crews, they would have been unable to do much more than float there and pick each other off. Historians believe that to help alleviate this problem stage props were used to represent ships. These were linked to mechanisms that could simulate exciting events like shipwrecks.

The Colosseum’s time hosting naumachia was short-lived, however. While initially it could be easily filled and drained using a series of canals and pools, this became impossible after Emperor Domitian had a network of rooms and tunnels built under the Colosseum, known as the Hypogeum.

It would have basically been in 1-2ft deep muddy water and ships wouldn't even been able to float. The design of the arena in the movie wouldn't have allowed for the arena to be flooded because of the underground tunnels/rooms. In one scene he is walking up to the arena floor from the tunnels ala the first Gladiator and then the next fight they are literally sailing a ship in from the same area

That's not even factoring in the stupidity of the sharks.

I’m sure they flooded it but the coliseum in much smaller than portrayed in the movies. It surprised me when we toured it. It’s like 90 x 50 yards.

I know dude. Chill man. It’s a movie. Of course they’re going to take creative license and embellish. But naval reenactments did historically happen in the Coliseum. I mean, Leonidas didnt actually hold off the entire Persian army with just 300 Spartans either, but it’s still a good story and there are parts of that movie that are awesome and badass.

That is not even remotely close to the biggest or even most significant issue with this movie. And I know I’m not saying anything you don’t already know.

Hey dude, did you know that they really flooded the arena for a mock navy battle? Bet you never heard that one.
