Inspired by the “Movies that took multiple viewings to understand.” Decided to start this one.

Slumdog Millionaire

I loved it the first time I saw it. On the second viewing, I saw every freaking plot hole. And there’s a lot of them. Characters change motivations and characterizations on a dime. The plot has to bend itself into pretzels to make the characters’ lives intersect. I just remember sitting there after the second time thinking, “What did I see in this film?”

Avatar. I was blown away in theaters. Months later we bought the DVD and watched it at the house. It was pretty lame.

Gladiator gets pretty cheesy with each viewing. The battle is great; the coliseum stuff is great; the intrigue is au fromage.

This will be very unpopular but Ex Machina.

Thought it was top 5 all time sci fi. Then you watch it again and dohmhall’s character is so fricking dumb and obvious. I don’t hate it but it dropped a lot after repeated viewing

For me, you can add pretty much the rest of the Star Wars prequels and sequels. I generally liked them, or at least felt they weren't as bad as I'd heard, the first time watching and then on subsequent viewing (or just a couple days of pondering) I'd come to the realization that "they were right, that sucked." At least compared to my initial thoughts.

1917 was absolutely incredible in the theater. The intensity was not there at home the second go round. I didn’t hate it, but it was a big drop off for me.

Prisoners. Not that I hated the movie the second time I watched it but I just hated watching it knowing how it ended. The movie is still one of the best suspense dramas I have seen but hard to see knowing what happens.

I think Black Panther and Ant-Man Quantamania. Alot of that is due to rewatch after reading the post movie threads here and because of the Critical Drinker. I was blinded. Black Panther still decent I think but no where near what it was made out to be at all

The Sixth Sense. It was a very well done movie and well acted and I enjoyed it. The story/script was also well done. However, I felt robbed by the visual trickery used as a cheap trick to make that story actually work. I’m curious if the book (if there is one) was done in a similar way.

Saw…

Watched it years ago and thought it was great. Recent put it on to watch with my adult son and turned it off about an hour in. I remembered the twist, but I didn’t remember it being virtually nothing but torture porn. Certainly, I remembered it being brutal, but it was just unenjoyable.

Wouldn’t say hate but it wore off a couple years later. Still good, but not what i remember it as.

Controversial answer… Arrival.

Avatar the first time I saw it.
Can’t stand it now

The new Planet of the apes can’t y stand it now and all the sequels.

Saw the Star Wars prequels and thought they were OK but now can’t stand them because of all the bad acting.

Dunkirk and 1917 was great at movies can’t watch now.

The first Avengers I thought was awesome but Captain America uniform looks awful now and can’t watch.

Can’t watch Titanic.

Bad Boys , Expendables, Tranformer, Fast and Furious, Star Trek Movies except Wrath of Kahn! All Jurassic park movies after the first.
Almost all series movies. They wear them out!

I definitely don’t hate it, but “The Hangover.” The first time I saw it I thought it was one of the funniest movies that I had ever seen, but once you know everything and all the jokes are very obvious, it loses its luster upon repeat viewings. Then they just ruin it further with The Hangover 2 which was outright atrocious.
