Have not seen it, but it must have had characters that checked all the required “Alphabet Soup” boxes for Hollywood.

Has Sinners officially passed Get Out and Black Panther as the best movie ever made?
Black Panther getting a best picture nom is worse than this. That was freaking ridiculous

A mostly black cast in a time where the Oscars are being criticized for not nominating enough black actors...

I went in knowing zero about it and thought it was great and different. Though unique, still had excellent story structure and narrative. Strong performances though nothing ground breaking in that regard. Loved the music.

I knew it would get a lot of nominations but never would have dreamed it would get nominations in every single category it could have been.
I'm also disappointed that Jesse Plemons didn't get a nomination.

First time hearing about this movie and don't really care

I loved Sinners, but I don't think MBJ's performance was Oscar worthy
I think Sinners is getting too much Oscar hype (because Hollywood loves to pat themselves on the back on their diversity) but it is a really good movie.
And I don't know if MBJ is "oscar worthy" but this movie launched him into A-list leading man stardom. I loved the badass vibe. Reminds me of Tom Hardy.

The "dance scene"
Hollywood has always been like this about actors doing random dancing or singing scenes. I guess from a movie-making perspective it's an achievement to choreograph and get on film, but from an entertainment perspective? Ehh.
I guess everyone has different things they find enjoyable about movies.

Really wish Train Dreams would win best picture
I’m surprised and disappointed that Joel Edgerton didn’t get a nomination for best actor.

I felt like he was already at that level at least to me. I still can't believe they killed him and Andy Serkis off in Black Panther. Hopefully they can just use fairy dust and bring them back somehow.
You know what is an underrated movie with him that you can watch with the wife/gf (or boyfriend for some on TD)? "That Awkward Moment" starring him, Zac Efron, and Miles Teller. Came out in 2014 and I don't know many that saw it. Cost $8 million to make and made $41 million at the box office.

Looks like it's Black Oscars time again! Hallelujah!

the non connnected view:
Look its a bunch of black people fighting vampires and stuff, yuck yuck yuck.
It's like the Lost Boys in 1920s in Alabama, yuck yuck yuck
It's like the Originals but with a bigger budget, yuck yuck yuck
Oh mah gawd, 16 noms is overboard, I'd rather watch a bunch of us on a sinking ship and a romance on a slab in the cold water, yuck yuck yuck

Look. Sinners was a pretty good movie. I definitely enjoyed it. But that movie has no business at all breaking the record for Oscar nominations. That’s ridiculous.

I was telling my friend who is hyper woke, even he doesn’t agree it deserved the most ever
And it only goes one way, you can’t come out publicly on podcasts or twitter and criticize it or you’ll be canceled for being racist and anti-black. So everyone has to go along with this . There is no discourse to be had because you’re instantly labeled a bigot the moment you suggest it didn’t deserve 16 nominations

Can you imagine how well something like Dead Presidents would have done in 2026? Got mixed reviews and no nominations as far as I can tell in the 90s.

Agree.

"Sinners" was partially filmed right here in Donaldsonville. These nominations belong to all of us.

It was good, but not 16 noms good.
This will be the Academy's version of reparations.
