I love this movie, but hate the mine car chase
the mine car chase was younger-me's favorite part. It's always why I was so incredibly captivated by the mine cart level in donkey kong country 2 for SNES.
The whole "temple of doom sucks and is a terrible movie" trope is so ridiculous to me. It's similar to the "nickleback is the worst band in human history" thing...a couple people said it to be hyperbolic then somehow, someway, it caught on in the mainstream and now it's basically a meme that has to be repeated every so often even if it's nowhere close to being correct.

Hot take: Temple of Doom is my favorite Indy movie.
It’s the most entertaining to me.
Raiders is objectively the best one. Last Crusade is a good movie but it’s nowhere near as rewatchable as 1 and 2.

I have seen these movies countless times. I NEVER put together that this happened before Raiders of the Lost Arc. I never even thought about it. I just assumed it was after. Im no genius, but im not the dullest knife in the drawer. My mind is blown.
dont feel too bad, that was kinda retconned by Lucas as I recall.
there's no logical reason for it to be a prequel, i dont think there are any dates in ToD that technically make it a prequel (someone correct me here if I'm wrong, please), and it even takes away from the "shooting the swordsman" scene in Raiders which is played for a gag in Temple.
it's fricking typical Lucas is what it is.

I’m curious how anyone could downvote this statement as it’s absolutely correct.
It’s obviously not better than Raiders. So do people think it’s better than The Last Crusade? You really prefer Spielberg’s girlfriend and a screeching kid to Sean Connery?
Preach.

Even as a kid I rolled my eyes at that one. Raiders always felt somewhat believable.

This is illogical and a false comparison. Do you like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen better than Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Lucas I think just didn’t want the nazis to be the villains again, so it’s a “prequel” pretty much in name (and year) only. According to wiki it’s set in 1935. Raiders is set in 1936.
Other than that there’s no really notable differences in the character since the two movies are basically contemporary

Ah yes, the Nazis which were, notably, not around in 1935.
Like I said, just Lucas being Lucas and retconning and overcomplicating timelines in hindsight just for the goddam hell of it.

Temple of Doom was for sure a prequel. During the opening scene the audience is told the story starts in Shanghai, 1935. Raiders of the Lost Arc is set during WW2 which began when Germany invaded Poland in 1939.

The first 3 were all great for different reasons. Raiders was clearly my favorite. Temple and Last Crusade are about even for me. Lots of over the top with Temple, but I agree that it’s fun over the top not ruined by bad cgi.

You need to check out Family Guy's take on "Temple of Doom".

Temple of Doom was the first IJ movie I saw as a kid. It's probably the worst of the trilogy quality-wise, but may be my favorite since it was the first that I saw. Screaming Willie aside, it's entertaining as hell.

Did you know Dan Akroyd was in Temple of Doom?

Pretty much my same situation.

False. Raiders and Last Crusade both take place before WW2. There are no active battles in Europe. Nobody is rationing food. There is no steel shortage or fuel shortage.
Raiders is 1936
Doom is 1935
Last Crusade is 1938
Raiders is 1936
Doom is 1935
Last Crusade is 1938

Temple of Doom would be much more watchable than Last Crusade if the woman character didn't scream so much. Its the only reason its a hard re-watch.
