Exactly...it's almost like they used what most of these extreme cold climate labs actually do as part of their research, and incorporated it into the story for a couple of seconds.

I’m telling you guys this Director had an agenda. FYI she mentioned this was her original story and had nothing to do with true Detective until HBO called her
I listened to the official HBO pod featuring her, and she kept mentioning how she wanted this to be a female empowerment series and it was very crucial to get 2 strong female leads
And the other pod she said Jodie Foster insisted her character be a racist cop
Now she’s begging for good reviews. lol
I will watch the series, but this doesn’t give it a good look.

i find it hilarious that we're only 1 episode in and we're already at 7 pages (140+ comments) about nothing but bullshite.

I don't know why people have to pick one extreme end of the spectrum or the other. Multiple things can coexist here.
-I'm not going to "hate watch", I'm simply going to watch. Because i like the TD realm and I want to see this season and am excited to see how it plays out.
-I also recognize that as with most streaming content these days we're beat over the head with how awful straight white conservative males are and how everyone else rules. Sometimes it's less prevalent or in your face as others, but it's everywhere.
The 2nd thing can be true (it definitely is) but it doesn't mean I'm going to get all lathered up about it or hold a grudge against the show.

I’m sure some of the people complaining that they “couldn’t finish” episode 1 will be finding a way to comment on random lines of “woke” dialogue a month from now.

Doubt it. While it is off to a very good start, i foresee a lot of people dropping out if it continues as propaganda that both despises Season 1 but yet looks to utilize call-backs and easter eggs to gain attention and views. I have suspicions this will get worse so I am going to wait until at least three good episodes are available. HBO was the creator of actual original classics like The Sopranos and The Wire; it is a shame they are following in the footsteps of Disney feminizing old established content.

Doubt it. Episode 1 didn't give me a glimmer of interest. Better things to watch, so many choices.
It's sloppily made, ugly and uninteresting. That's what happens when you put personal narrative over story narrative.
The Director sucks. The hook, the opening shot? She allowed that CGI Reindeer flying nonsense in the show? Good grief. People have way better options. Slapping "True Detective" on this sham is like selling a Timex as a Rolex.

I’m speaking mostly to the ones who will do nothing but rage against it for pages and not allow for general discussion of the show (which is starting to happen more often here).
Thought the CGI was shite? Cool (I think we most do). Thought the dialogue wasn’t great? Ok, that’s pretty reasonable.
Angry that the two leads are women and one is Black/Native and not attractive to you? Ok, well that’s not going to change so probably not worth bitching for the next however many episodes about it.

I thought the cgi reindeer was laughable but think the rest of it was pretty well shot. Man this Issa going to be a wild ride of a thread the rest of the way. Almost more interested in this thread than the show going forward.
