Just for you, Tori trying to fill the void left by Kelley and Jessie in Saved by the Bell almost ruined the show. I know there were contract shenanigans and it wasn't initially planned, but it was so jarring.

Yeah the Tori episodes weren’t on the same level but they were still solid. But at least they didn’t try to literally replace the same characters with different actresses. That’s egregious IMO (barring something unforeseen like the actor dying).

It didn’t ruin it like the last season but the second Daario Naharis in GOT was pathetic

Yea horrible casting. Went with a guy that had ZERO charisma or swag and it was painful trying to watch him pull it off. Just a awful actor and bad fit.

Meg Griffin wasn't originally voiced by Mila Kunis. Pam's mom on the Office. Mark Brandani-quits. Apparently OG Aunt Viv said Will Smith was a piece of shite and she didn't want anything to do with him

I thought they both sucked to be honest. But to recast between seasons and not get a better actor was a complete failure.

Lacey Chabert did season one of Meg's voice.
I can't watch season one now, because it just sounds so wrong for Meg's voice.

If you're referring to Married With Children, you can meet me at the nearest Sonic for a fistfight.

You don't want to tangle with me, Cokes.

On the other hand, I obviously don't want to fight the entire M/TV board, so let's clarify:

McGinley came in:

Happy Days
Love Boat
Dynasty

If anything, the role as Jefferson on MWC saved his reputation as a "show killer", although he is cool with the fun folks have with it - they even referenced it in Married With Children. Now, I like Steve. When I watch the show with Steve, I do not feel cheated. However, Jefferson is a great character as well.

Going into the wayback machine...

Replacing George and Dorothy with Steve and Barbara on Hazel.

No, I'm not that old, used to watch it everyday after school from 3:30 to 4:00. (And yes, still on TV Land sometimes. Something about just a good, clean show is enjoyable)

Good for her since she saw it way before most people realized what a garbage human being he is.

Charmed got better when Rose McGowan replaced Shannen Doherty. But that wasn't due to the characters or actresses. The swap coincided with a change of lead writers, from someone who wanted to focus on the relationship between the sisters to one who wanted the show to be about hottie action heroines.

Charlie’s Angels switches were a big deal. But maybe not better or worse.

I know it doesn't count but this always makes me think of the Dick Van Dyke show since the pilot had a different cast originally. I've watched the original pilot and man the show is so different even if the plot is the same.

Larry Keating played Wilbur's horse-hating friend on Mister Ed. It was never the same after he passed away and they tried to replace him.

The biggest ruined one for me is Spartacus.

I will never agree with that take. Though Anthony Whitfield started as Spartacus and died, I though Liam McIntyre did a fantastic job of taking up that role. He ever looked very similar. He made that show fantastic as the seasons rolled along

I dont think it took anything away from the show and I bet there were a lot of people didnt even notice the change for a while

When they fired Charlie and brought in Walden on 21/2 men. The show got real bad after that.

do they have to be the same character?

Seems it could be the same position. Like Coach and Woody Boyd were both bartenders. Same position.

On MASH they changed out surgeons and the commanding officer.

On Home Improvement there were two different Tool Time girls. Pamela Anderson and Debbie Dunning.

If we're going back to the black and white era, the first Mr Wilson on Dennis the Menace was much better the second one.

Better: Winston for Coach on New Girl

Wash: Dr. Pulaski for Dr. Crusher on ST:TNG

Worse: Anyone after Simon Cowell on American Idol

Will Smith's aunt being switched on Fresh Prince definitely helped the character. The first one was annoying as hell.

Kaley Cuoco taking over from the Pilot version of Penny on Big Bang was also a great move.

For a character swap, I am going to throw in Lenny Brisco (Jerry Orbach) on Law & Order in season 3, with honorable mentions to Van Buren (Epatha Merkerson in Season 4) Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston season 5)

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the original Law & Order DA Ben Stone, Detectives Greavy then Ceretta, and Capt. Cragen - that show had a more gritty, less polished feel to it.

But Lenny, “Lou” and Jack were iconic, as spoken for by longevity.
