Now that the Olympics are finally in full swing, lets get a tally on everyones' favorite movie involving the Olympics.

Miracle is the heavy favorite, so I'm gonna go with Cool Runnings

Miracle and Cool Runnings are the clear 1a and 1b. But I really enjoyed Eddie the Eagle.

Chariots of Fire by a lot. Great movie. It beat out Atlantic City (also a great movie) and Raiders of the Lost Ark (also a great movie).

And will be until they finally make the Kurt Angle movie about winning the gold with a broken freakin’ neck.

I actually haven't seen Chariots of Fire. One of those weird situations where that movie was in my wheelhouse as a teenager in the early 80s so I have no explanation as to why I missed it.

Downloading to Plex now.

Is a masterpiece, for sure. Worthy of watching solely for Vangelis' genius score. Certainly more for runners. IMHO, Miracle and Cool Runnings are better "Olympics" films and more accessible. Chariots is a reasonably high brow film with a sports theme.

And, again, don't sleep on I, Tonya - that movie is brilliant on many levels. As a tragicomedy, would be very difficult to beat. Although based on real events, seems absurdist at time, like a strange intersection of the work of Terry Gilliam, the Coen Brothers and PTA.

A different vibe, for sure, but Tokyo Olympiad is one of the greatest documentaries ever produced.

Kon Ichikawa's 3-hour chronicle of the 1964 games in Tokyo. It's beautiful and exciting, and you can see the genesis of the modern sports replay/montage format.

Yeah it's a great cinematic watch of a combination of documentary and poetry.

Leni Riefenstahl's Olympia (1936 Olympics) is pure Poetry.

16 Days of Glory (1984 Olympics) is the best storytelling Olympic documentary.

Tokyo Olympiad is the best at combing both.

Cool Runnings. Maybe The Cutting Edge. Does Stick It count?

I can’t stand the Olympics or most Olympic Sports, so I’m not the intended audience.

It was Junior Olympics, but does Mighty Ducks count? If not, Cool Runnings for sure.
