If you wanna knock someone for covers, he's the one you'd bash. I like him, though. His putting out three or four albums a year rubs some folks the wrong way, he can only do that because he does mostly covers. Benjamin Tod took a lighthearted jab at him about it in an interview not long ago.

I quit listening to country when Luke Colmes remade Fast Car but continued to sing it from a woman's point of view. Worst cover ever but bro-country morons love it.

Country music singers have always been a real close family
But lately some of my kinfolk have disowned a few others and me

As a recovered musician myself, the majority of country-pop songs follow a nearly identical format. It’s musically insulting.
I have a Cousin who is a current Country Super Star and I honestly can’t stand his music. Dude fills stadiums full of people so I can’t knock him for his success. It’s just my cup of tea.

I would argue that this era is one of the best for country music ever. It’s just not the pop country the radio plays.

I'm not really sure how "high exposure" music works nowadays. Who exactly is directly paying for new albums or singles that determine radio play?
Hell, I'd imagine that less than a third of folks actively listen to FM.

Eric Church is the GOAT.

Not country music, but don’t take it from me, take it from the lead singer “We are not a country band, we are a rock ‘n’ roll band“. Sounds Americana to me.

The Castellows were really good when they came to Shreveport. They were very nice. There was a kid's birthday party at the venue and the girls came down and joined in (which thrilled the attendees at the party, including the kids).

Fair point, but I would say that most folks who would describe themselves as country fans would like their music.

I just listen to George Strait, George Jones and Conway Twitty if I’m not in my pool listening to Yacht Rock.

That sounds like your typical formulaic country song, one of millions.
Nothing even remotely special about it.

The stuff that "charts" is what the 11 year old redneck girls are listening to. There's good country out there, that caters to you and your sensibilities, but it will not be "charting".

But! It's a formula that appeals to those who don't like the formula du jour. It does play in to tropes, but it sounds like music did when I was young, so I'm not going to be mad at it.
I can go down a rabbit hole if'n you want.

I think I’m well versed on the good stuff, but always open to suggestions.

Are you more of an Americana/folksy or Red Dirt/outlaw fan?

Great music gone forever
Such a lazy take. There’s plenty of great country music still being made. Just because you don’t see it on the bullshite cmt video countdown doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
This is the equivalent to CFB fans saying nobody runs pro style offense anymore. It’s all RPO
