Matthew Sweet always delivers strong pop songs, including Sick of Myself…
Big Star and Alex Chilton are criminally under-appreciated…

Not much power pop listed in this thread. Most of it’s not even pop. Pop is music that gets/got a ton of repetitive play on FM radio.
Not much of it is power anything either. This is an another thread where everyone tries to show their edgy music chops.
Power pop is very popular songs with powerful undertones whether it be vocal or instrumental.
Bryan Adams type stuff. “It’s Only Love” by him and Tina Turner was power and pop. Summer of 69, Cuts Like a Knife, etc.
Billy Idol stuff. White Wedding, Eyes Without a Face
Eric Clapton- Bad Love, She’s Waiting
Power Station- Addicted to Love, Sledgehammer
Chicago Power Ballad era- Hard to Say I’m Sorry
Fabulous Thunderbirds- Tuff Enough
Just some examples of Power Pop
Pop (a ton of repetitive FM airplay) and power (hard driving)
Some of the songs listed in this thread are great songs but nowhere near meeting criteria for pop music and especially not power pop music.

Whoever made up the pretend genre label doesn’t know what pop music is. Supposed to be modeled on early pop bands like the Beatles, The Who, The Byrds , The Rolling Stones, etc.. All received huge airplay on FM and had songs that hung around on Billboard Top 100 for months to years. The Smithereens, Guadal Canal Diary, Husker Du, etc. never crossed over to mainstream. Pop (popular) by definition is mainstream. None of those bands, (some of who were my college era favorites) were pop music producers. Shouldn’t use the qualifier of pop in a genre label if the music never realized pop status.

I mean, no. You just ignoring an accepted definition and creating your own. You're hung up on a word and are objectively wrong about it.

lol... One of the definitive power pop bands (Big Star) were anything but popular... ever...

It would be hard to be more wrong than you are with that take.

I just read that The Raspberries almost reunited in 1999, but it didn't quite work out then. Anyway, Wally Bryson, Dave Smalley and replacement Berrie Scott McCarl decided to make a six song EP called "Raspberries Refreshed".
Sounds like typical Power Pop stuff to me. Good listen!

Some more good shite right here, The 4Sknns.
A local band from Kansas City who specialized in Power Pop material.
Here's a cool medley of "Walk Away Renee" with "Go All The Way".

Didn’t see this one posted. Another genre defining tune by Big Star.
