Circling back to this (my wife was in a bad car accident yesterday, so life has been topsy-turvey the past 24 hours).
After giving it a little thought I'd say two prime candidates would be the afore mentioned NIN or one that I haven't seen yet, Moby. His combination of EDM and visuals would work well at the sphere.

Lot's of people are posting artists who could provide great visuals, but they also have to sell tickets. Not sure Moby has that kind of draw, but I'm not an EDM fan, so perhaps I'm wrong.

Another choice in that same genera that might not be big enough to do a residency but would be good for several one off show would be the Orb.

I hear you and my second post on the subject gets to that point. However, do you think the Blue Man group had that same kind of draw when they started in Vegas? But they've been selling out shows for 25 years now. Point being that people go to Vegas to experience something they haven't seen before. All the old, tired arena rock and jam bands mentioned don't really fit THAT bill.
Another group I've not seen listed that might be able to do it is Imagine Dragons

The Blue Man Group performs in a theater that seats 830 people. The Sphere holds around 20,000.
Lots of niche acts can succeed in Las Vegas, but not at the scale The Sphere requires.
Tickets for premium bands at The Sphere can be $350, while you can see the Blue Man Group for $50-$100.
People will see regular Vegas acts, magic shows, etc, on a whim, or even get comped tickets by the casino. People generally travel to Las Vegas specifically to see the band playing at The Sphere.
So they have to have a dedicated fan base that is willing to spend thousands of dollars on travel and tickets to see them.
And this has to be done 6-30+ times. VERY few acts can pull this off.

I'm certainly no expert on this. I was shocked that the Backstreet Boys pulled it off, and the EDM group that did it I had never heard of.

Anyma sold it out everynight and I'd bet that Illenium does in March...
Word is Metallica is going to announce a residency next Oct/Nov... The one that would sell it out in a heartbeat as stated earlier would be TOOL.

They couldn’t do it from a sell the tickets perspective, but Trans Siberian Orchestra would put on a hell of a show in the Sphere. They already have a semi-immersive show just using stage screens, lasers, lights, and now drones. I’d love to see what they would put together for the Sphere.

Maybe not at The Sphere, but they would do great in a Vegas residency at a smaller venue.

That's what i was thinking. Come for the music, stay for the violent crime. Plus who wants to travel to Baltimore in Dec-Feb? I guess it is within a days drive of a lot of population centers and it isn't as big.
