I think the thought process in wanting Monty is that he could be a one year elder statesman type that WG absolutely needs.

Detour to NYC and grab Josh while you’re at it.

The revisionist history here on Monty is truly amazing.

There were a few of us that said all along that Derps was the problem, not Monty, but we got shouted down by the majority of the board.

He had the benefit of chris paul being his floor general. He is a 50/50 coach. Looked at what happened when he went out

The suns won 2 games once Chris went out.

The funniest thing about the whole situation is that Demps was only hired because Monty wanted his buddy Dell as GM.

That whole sequence was amazing in its ineptitude. Jeff Bower convinced Shinn to offer Thibs the job, but Thibs was waiting to get an interview with the Bulls. Shinn gave Thibs an ultimatum and warned him that they will hire Monty Williams if Thibs doesn't respond by game 1 of the finals. Thibs continued to ignore them, and the Hornets hired Williams. Bower resigned a month later, and Monty got to pick his replacement, selecting his friend and former teammate Dell Demps. After failing to match the winning percentages of noted basketball gurus Tim Floyd, Jeff Bower, and Byron Scott, Williams was fired by his former friend and chosen boss.

I don’t think that was the case, at all.

I wonder if there is any chance he would come here to be lead assistant for a year or two.

Can see him getting the Pistons job.

Breaking: Monty Williams and the Detroit Pistons have agreed in principle on a six-year, $72 million deal for Williams to become the franchise’s new head coach, sources tell me and @JLEdwardsIII. The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days.

With incentives the contract could be 8 years and 100 million. It seems like a lot for Monty

You think? He’s only the highest paid coach in the league. He didn’t magically become a better coach when he went to Phoenix, they just got Chris Paul.

There are multiple job openings from contending teams desperate and willing to spend to take that next step. It's a bit of a unique market Monty found himself in, but it also says coach salary inflation is out of control. If Willie isn't the guy we need to know this up coming season or he's going to get an expensive extension that will be hard to walk away from.

Holy overpay! I like Monty, but the Pistons backed up the Brinks truck!

Guess we’re stuck with Jarron Collins for another year

If so, I hope they push him down the bench and bring in an experienced coach to shake up this staff. Willie needs help and guidance.

With all Monty's dealt with personally, I am happy for him. He's a nice guy. Hope this works out for him.
